Product Description

Spanish horror sequel in which another outbreak of a deadly infectious virus strikes an unsuspecting group of civilians. It is Koldo (Diego Martin) and Clara (Leticia Dolera)'s wedding day. Everything goes well, with the happy couple revelling in their special day, until an elderly guest who had complained of being bitten by a dog earlier in the day keels over and appears to be dead. However, subsequent events reveal that a fate far worse than death has struck the guest when he awakes and savagely bites his wife, triggering a further outbreak of the rabies-like infection among the wedding party. Amidst the chaos that ensues, Clara and Koldo become separated from one another. Can they find each other and make their escape before one of them becomes infected with the horrifying virus spreading like wildfire through the group?

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as other reviews suggest. 16 July 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
It was with great trepidation that I bought this item after reading the reviews for REC3. This is not really a film I would classify in the REC series as it bears little resemblance to the first two which are both 5 star films, hence the 4 star review. However, as a stand alone film this movie is good fun. Yes, it gets farcical at times but I actually found this to be a refreshing change. I can understand why some die hard REC fans find this film insulting but if you go in with the mindset that it's going to be really bad you just might be surprised. All in all a little gem of a film for under a tenner.

REC 1 is one of the best horror films of the past decade; REC 2 is equally scary but has more critics due to its occasional video game-lite camera work. What makes these films work is the fact that they use the ambient camera work motif, found footage whatever you want to call it. Those two films justify this mode of storytelling where other film makers use it as a gimmick. REC genesis makes a point from deviating from that formula with director Paco Plaza having his male lead blatantly smash the camera forcing the film into more traditional storytelling tools. This does not make the film bad; this just makes the film different. Genesis opens the world up, which allows the film to have more fun with visuals and its characters. The camera work is tight, the cinematography is gorgeous, but the most important part to stress is that REC 3: Genesis is a wonderful and gory way to spend 80-odd minutes that still pays tribute to the franchises routes while carving itself into new directions. Since when has fun been so unashamedly victimized in the horror community? REC 3 is a great little Spanish genre film, and for all those naysayers, early footage shows the upcoming REC4 returning to its roots.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why? Why do you change the style, REC? 21 Oct 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Well, I am a fan of the REC series. I absolutely love the first of the series and the second one. This one just disappointed me in some ways. I was expecting the old style of handheld cams in the first and second one but this one just lasts for like 20 minutes then it change to cinematic style. The other downside thing is they made some of the scenes look funny. Please! I want the old handheld camera style back please! However, I am still giving three stars for the cinematic style. Not bad but please don't put any comedy scenes in between. That will spoil the mood. Love it but would like to hate it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Not Another Shaun of the Dead! 18 July 2014
By Dasha
Format:Blu-ray
To cut a long story short, the virus in the first two Rec movies, finds it's way into a big wedding, and the guests are soon turning into zombies and doing what zombies do. There is no doubt that this film is out of kilter with the first two Rec films, which were intended to be spine chilling and took things more seriously than Rec 3. That said, Rec 3 is hardly a comedy horror in the vein of Shaun of the Dead or An American Werewolf in London, it is more gruesome and the attempts at humour are infrequent. This is a highly enjoyable zombie battle, set within the confines of a beautiful country retreat, with some taughtly directed fight scenes in the hotel kitchen, and some genuinely gripping sequences where the last few humans fend off the best efforts of the zombie hoards to have them for dinner. The fact that the whole film revolves around the wedding setting is original, and extremely well done. A lot of the reviews for this film are entirely negative, which I find baffling. If you are expecting another Zombies Dawn of the Dead, then you will be sorely disappointed. However, if you accept this film for what it is, a slightly drole but nonetheless still scarey and fast paced zombie flick, you'll have a very pleasant hour and a half

1.0 out of 5 stars Why did they make this? 17 May 2014
Format:DVD
I loved REC1 and 2, but REC 3 shouldn't have been made for the following reasons:
- The incredibly long (and boring) lead-up before you even reach the movie title screen seems to take half the movie length
- Removing the hand-held camera footage (which was the whole point of "REC" i.e. RECord) and making it a standard movie was incredibly stupid. They may as well have just called it another title and not used "REC" at all.
- Making the movie into an almost Evil Dead style (and not in a good way) stupid horror/comedy again lost the suspense of the two previous movies.
They couldn't even decide if the zombies/demons should shamble or be running super-zombies so they had them do both for no reason whatsoever!
Congratulations on screwing up the series :(

3.0 out of 5 stars ST. GEORGE THE ZOMBIE SLAYER 18 May 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
The film opens with a wedding and the hand held camera genre. One of the film makers is a professional photographer who has a device to steady his camera. Without this device the camera jerks around making the film "unwatchable." During the reception an unexplained zombie infestation breaks out as uncle swan dives from the balcony. This localized zombie infestation spreads to the wedding party and soon the bride (Leticia Dolera) and groom (Diego Martín) have memories for a lifetime.

These zombies are semi-intelligent, semi-foot dragging, and respond to scripture spoken. Their faces are cover with indelible blood that stays on in a heavy down pour. The film genre has moved from a suspenseful hand held film to a campy bloody zombie slasher complete with the bride toting a chainsaw. Oh the things we do for love. I guess it is what you are into. "Rec" fans will surly hate it while fans of campy zombie films have another one for the marathon.

Parental Guide: F-bombs, implied sex scene, a distant nude scene plus some weird mirror horror nudity. And of course blood, and dismembered body parts approaching Troma style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised.
Most trilogies would admit that the 3rd in the set is usually the worse...BUT I really think that REC genesis is actually the best of the REC franchise. Was pleasantly surprised.
