Oh, joy!

Roger Waters must be a-spinnin' in his grave. The usually po-faced and sancimonius Pink Floyd are here affectionately, yet mercilessly covered by a bunch of Canadian hicks. The whole of 1978's The Wall performed in a Country and Western style. Complete with banjos and beautifully parodied between-tracks samples ("How can you have any puddin', if you don't eat yer chicken?").

I love mid-period Pink Floyd; spent large swathes of my teenage years (that would have been better used chasing girls) with headphones clamped to my head, analysing the deeper troughs of "Mother", and generally taking the whole Floyd ethic way too seriously. Not only is this album beautifully recorded, it's hilarious. And keeps me grinning fondly for its entirity.

A gift to mankind. Buy it for the same person you bought the "Echoes" compilation last Xmas.

Love to you all,

Damian

Great stuff and beautifully executed. Bluegrass version of The Wall. No matter what you think of Floyd, the Wall is a hugely influential album and this version will certainly make a worthy addition to your collection.

So why not 5 stars? Well I'm pretty harsh marker generally (I mean 5 stars doesn't leave much leeway for better stuff) and it's true that some of the tracks don't work quite as well as some, but there are plenty of 5 star tracks like Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell. Plus there's some beautifully funny bits e.g. is There Anybody Out There becoming a gentlemen of country descent (no doubt with a reddened neck, attendent shot gun and dog skeeter) calling out into the night complete with frog calls, but especially the groupie turning "You wanna take a bath?" from a non too subtle seduction (as per the original) into simple advice on cleanliness.

A work of true genius 18 Mar 2005

I found this album completely by accident when indulging in a bit of nostalgia for Pink Floyd at Napster. I listened to it with increasing delight - it simply could not be better. Once the grinning at the novelty has worn off, the jaw-dropping brilliance of the arrangements stays with you. Particular highlights are "Goodbye blue sky", "Young Lust", and "Run Like Hell", but the whole thing has a wonderfully cohesive quality, and above all the songs are respected even when utterly transformed.

And the best bit is that it reminds you what was great about "The Wall", even when at a distance of 25 years the original sounds a little dated and overblown.

Truly wonderful. And like the best of art, completely irreducible. A work of genuine genius. Trust me.
