I was a VW/Audi technician for many years in a dealership. Never in my many years did I find a book as easy to understand as this book. It is much easier to read and understand then even some factory shop manuals. I have rebuilt many VW aircooled engines and also review this book prior to beginning a rebuild just to remind myself of the nessesary steps. It even tells you what Engine cases to use and not to use and step by step parts installation. My only recommendation is not to cut corners on your parts and the first thing to do is buy and read this book. M.C.

I've used this book now for several rebuilds over the past 10 years or so and is now covered in oily finger prints. It's a bit difficult to get over some of the 'Americanisms' to begin with, with comments like 'don't have to really cinch it tight' and 'that's a real bunch', but they all begin to sink in after a while. As another reviewer has put (and is relates to any rebuild you do), don't skimp on parts and use new whenever you can. I re-used what I thought were OK 'rods in the last engine only to have to rebuild 50 miles later as their big ends were gone.

I have owned and maintained both a Bus and a Beetle for several years using the Haynes manuals. I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable however whilst using the "Look inside" feature I was tempted to buy it.

What a joy... It is packed with valuable and useful information that is absolutely essential prior to starting a strip-down and rebuild. I've actually extracted each of the inspection and assessment routines and created an easy to use check off list for use on the job. It is a book that you will happily keep on dipping into to further enhance your engine knowledge and hone your confidence and skills. Although it has an American "tilt" the engines are universal. I love it...

I would definitely recommend a protective cover when reading on the job; just to prolong its legibility, my Haynes's have taken a right battering!

If you're really into the mechanics of the Bug then this book is for you. More info than you can shake a stick at. Plus: Chapter one, 'Time To Rebuild.' is a real gem of information. Says my partner....

I bought this book as a present for my partner who is a big Bug fan. The book was listed as 'New' unfortunately, the one I received was obviously used. So I had to buy another as it was not fit for the intended purpose. All credit to Amazon and DailyDeal UK as once I had pointed out the discrepancy I was given a refund and, allowed to keep the book.

Five stars all round for service.
