As a newcomer to the world of Welsh history I had experienced trouble in finding accessable works on the topic. But this book is different to others due to its sheer readability. Morgan's account is diverse, interesting, and occasionally humourous. It is not nationalistic or overtly patriotic in its approach and maintains a cold historical viewpoint throughout. For students of Welsh history, it is invaluable and perhaps unsurpassed. However, it is not perfect. Its sheer lenght may be off putting, along with the excruciatingly minute print. Those not familiar with the Welsh language may have trouble unstanding some terms used in the book, but Morgan's work does not contain the same obscure cultural referrences seen in other books of this genre.
All in all, it's well worth the cost, and is the best account of modern Wales I've come accross. Whatever your level of knowledge of Welsh history, you'll find this a useful addition to your collection.
