Another formidable overview of new musical trends, 31 Oct 2001
This review is from: Rebirth of Cool 7-Another (Audio CD)
It has been three years since this was released, and judging by the frequency of its predecessors, it could quite likely be the last of the series. During its time, the Rebirth of Cool albums gained a reputation for being on the cutting edge of acid jazz and trip-hop, before those labels existed, let alone be mainstream. Each album remained distinct from its predecessors, always keeping its eye on the horizon for the new trends. Three years on, this compilation doesn't sound dated, a testament to the forward thinking of the creators, Patrick Forge & Trevor Wyatt. The focus this time is less on trip hop, and more on longer, instrumental pieces, with heavy emphasis on ethnic rhythms. It understandably leans towards dance music rather than "listening" music, but by the this point the two genres of electronic music were moving closer together, and this album showcases that. The album's opener is a highlight, as is the Roots Manuva track (a relative unknown when this was released), and the Indian techno-jazz of Na-Da. It's a great pity no more of these albums seem to be forthcoming.

attempt to make dance and d&b music "in-the-groove", 8 July 2000
This review is from: Rebirth of Cool 7-Another (Audio CD)
Pretty good extension of the Rebirth series. This one kinda goes against the implied brief of the others, however, this is not necessarily a bad thing. No.7 brings D&B and Dance into the realms of chilled and in-the-groove in a way previously achieved by such as aim, mr. scruff and the fsuk series. If you like D&B and dance, this is a real useful albums for those bleary eyed and gurning mouth moments at five in the morning! s'all good

The seventh and biggest effort, but not entirely the best, 26 July 1998

This review is from: Rebirth of Cool 7-Another (Audio CD)
In the seventh installment of the groundbreaking compilation album from Island Records, Patrick Forge and Trevor Wyatt has once again brought together some of the best artistes from the avant-garde music scene and put them in one handy briefcase of both danceable and relaxing songs. Starts of with `Get Another Plan' by Abstract Truth with lush horns and sultry vocals but it shifts gears immediately and jumps into Ian O'Brien's `Monkey Jazz', some sort of a thinking man's dance tune. Throughout the compilation, we see the likes of jazz, drum`n'bass , house, techno and garage. However, the 2-CD effort was a bit too much for my liking when they could've made things juicier by compacting the cream of the crop into one CD. Nevertheless, with saving graces like Roni Size's `Ballet Dance' and `African Elation' by Dean Fraser, Rebirth Of Cool 7 gets all the accolades it deserves.

Incredible!, 7 Nov 2010

How much better can it get?
I owned a couple of other CDs in this series when I decided to make it my mission to own all of them. Found this one, sadly without any track samples or anything else to describe the content a little bit more. But having been extremely pleased with my former purchases I made bold and ordered it.
Can't even describe my delight when I received this CD. First of all, it's a double, which just about made me jump up and down, and the music on both discs is absolutely astounding. I listened to the whole thing three times on the evening it arrived.
Not a single bad or even mediocre track in the entire series and I can't think of higher praise than that. It's the kind of stuff artists on the current "popular" scene should be listening to if they want to get an idea of what's *really* good!

I'm serious. Abstract Truth did quite a remix for "get another plan". Superb sounds...music that pushes you farther. Put this track in, get on the highway, and floor it! You won't be dissapointed.
