As usual, fans of Vini will have been waiting with baited breath, especially those who saw him play Manchester Cathedral with a rapper, no less, on a couple of songs about 2 years ago. Well here it is finally, and excellent it is too. There are the usual Vini offerings, beautiful guitars and whispered vocals and Bruce's masterful drumming. But he has also enlisted some real singers and does a cover version too, all about the Irish potato famine. A cover for Vini is a rarity indeed. What is the world coming to? Will the next album have a lyric sheet? Track 5 for me is the one track which shows signs of something really different. Heaven's above, if it was released as a single and plugged I almost think it could be a hit. But I'm sure that after 22 years of making sublime music Vini doesn't want a hit. Overall, a fine album and well worth the wait. It's not quite up there with "The Return of....." and "Sex and Death" but certainly worth the money. If you've never heard of The Durutti Column, go on, take a risk and buy it. It will open up a whole new undiscovered musical world.

Hmmm, Is it really 22 years since i bought the factory Sampler? Anyways, Vini's released a new cd and I must say that after listening to it 4 or 5 times it's quite a good one, not upto The Guitar and Other Machines or Vini Reilly but will anything? ;)
It starts off in typical Vini fashion, finger picking good. Then onto track 2...Vini has another go at singing/talking, which actually doesn't spoil the track at all...a good one. track 3...Bruce! A nice track. Vini strumming away with the finger picking overdub...sweet. Tracks 4 and 5 left me cold, sorry. Track 6, back on form with a quite nice female vocal. good. Anyways, it progresses in the style of Vini, if you have heard him before you'll know what I mean. Now, the last track, Number 11, I've read a couple of people don't like it...well I think it's great. bruce on drums, Vini giving his guitar some stick and some heavy samples over the top. Niiice. Well worth the asking price as Vini always is.
