Billy Idol's collection of the best, is a collection which everyone with a heart for rock should own. It's music for listening alone in the dark, or for your kick-ass party. The fantastic version of "Eyes without av face" you find on this cd, i worth the price alone. I recommend this album!

Idol is somewhat undervalued in the UK, quite possibly because he headed to the US in the early 80's to make his name. I always enjoyed this album as a youngster growing up, and it holds up remarkably well. Strangely enough the song Rebel Yell actually sounds the most dated song, but it's driving rhythm and brilliant chorus soon makes you forget. The eerie Daytime Drama, and moving Eyes Without A Face come next, with Blue Highway ending off side one in some style. Flesh For Fantasy, possibly Idol's very best song is next up, providing the right amount of menace, and steam needed for a song title like that. Catch My Call is strong too, with a great saxophone break. (Do Not) Stand in The Shadows and Crank Call are the weakest cuts, but The Dead Next Door is a chilly, and atmospheric closer. Really good album, Idol in fine voice, and Steve Stevens was a smoking lead guitar player.

An awful lot of rubbish has been spouted in the UK press about Billy Idol over the years; yes, his punk credentials aren't fantastic and yes, he released that awful Cyberpunk album. But at the time of "Rebel Yell" and (to a slightly lesser extent) "Whiplash Smile", he was at the cutting edge of rock, and releasing some true quality tunes. Pretty much ALL of this album is very, very good, and William deserves major kudos for having the foresight to ditch the UK's bitchy Smash Hits scene, decamp to LA and hook up with Steve Stevens, whose fabulous but understated guitar pyrotechnics are the soul of his sound.
It may sound a bit dated nowadays, but then so does pretty much all '80s American (based) rock. Give the album another listen and give the man some credit, for heaven's sake.

Im a huge fan of Billy Idol and this is by far his best work. Every song is a gem, I've never grown tired of this album and I don't think I ever will.

If you have been smart enough to purchase this album well go ahead and purchase the rest of Billy's stuff, you wont be dissapointed.
