We all know that singers sometimes record more songs than they need for an album. Those not included often stay in the vaults, ignored for many years. Following Reba's departure from Mercury to MCA, her first label searched their vaults and found more than enough tracks to make up an album. While these are not the best songs that Reba recorded for Mercury (if they were, they would have been included on one of her original Mercury albums) they are of a high quality - far better than I would expect of leftovers.
There are covers of Waiting for the sun to shine (Ricky Skaggs) and Empty arms (Teresa Brewer). Most of the songs here are ballads, beginning with the opening track, I've never stopped dreaming of you.
This is an interesting collection that committed Reba fans will enjoy. If you are unfamiliar with Reba's Mercury music, I recommend that you start with Oklahoma girl, a double-CD that I reviewed a long time ago, which contains some of these songs and all her Mercury classics together with more then-unreleased tracks from the vaults. If you want more of her Mercury music, I recommend Feel the fire, Unlimited, Behind the scene and Heart to heart (in any order) next, followed by Out of a dream. That just leaves two Mercury albums - this one and her untitled debut - to complete all available recordings from that period of her career.
