5.0 out of 5 stars High quality debut that flopped, 14 Mar 2004

(No. 1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)    (TOP 10 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Reba Mcentire (Audio CD)
In 1977, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Billie Jo Spears and Emmylou were the major female country stars, while Lynn Anderson, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn were still doing well although their best years were behind them as events proved. Tanya Tucker was also doing well (this was before the slump in her career). There was great interest in Janie Fricke and Barbara Mandrell – two singers who had shown some promise and who seemed to be destined for stardom. No wonder that nobody wanted to know about a new young singer called Reba McEntire who (as events have shown) ended up selling more records than any of them, except perhaps Dolly.

Best of the original songs are I don't want to be a one night stand and There's nothing like the love between a woman and a man, though Glad I waited just for you, One to one and I've waited all my life for you are all wonderful. This album includes several covers. Why can't he be you is the first of several Patsy Cline covers that Reba has recorded in her career. Invitation to the blues is a Roger Miller song that became a country hit for Ray Price. Right time of the night was a pop hit for Jennifer Warnes. The group Hot had an American pop hit with Angel in your arms, but country fans may know that Lynn Anderson and Barbara Mandrell have also recorded it.

This is not an essential Reba album but it has much to offer the committed Reba fan.

I own 20 Reba McEntire albums, and this is one of my favorites. It took me forever to find it but it is a great album it is hard to explain the feeling you get when you hear it. Buy it and you will see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rebe McEntire's first album, 11 Aug 2008
By Tim Van Boening - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Reba Mcentire (Audio CD)
Since this is Reba McEntire's very first album, which was released back in 1977, I consider this album a very good, but a very rare album that is worth listening to many times.

It may sound a whole lot different from Reba's later and newer albums. But her voice sounds just the same as any other Reba album that anyone have purchased on either vinal record, audio cassete, and/or CD.

Now that I own this on CD after purchasing it off Amazon, I would like to say on the behalf of Reba McEntire and all of her fans throughout the world that this album and the rest of her earlier albums released by Mercury/Polygram Records be available for MP3 download purchases, just like with her newer albums from MCA/Universal Records.
