This album is one of the finest folk/pagan metal albums ever created. What struck me about this album is the guitar and tin whistle duets evident in the tracks born to the fight and king of the fairies. This was something new and it added to the folk elements of the album. There is a wide range of musical elements in the album. The song Emain Macha shows a hint of black metal, victory feast more death/thrash type metal and then a lot of the tracks for example born to the fight and with veins afire have a very unique sound. The album is not just full of mosh pit material but also contains acoustic songs such as the album opener sunrise. Many people from different musical backgrounds can enjoy this album as it contains all forms of metal, Irish traditional music and contains a cover of the song King of the Fairies (which is said to be the finest ever version of this Irish tune which is over 2000 years old!) If I had to give any criticism of this album it would have the be that there are not enough solos. We are given excellent solos in the songs a heroes lament and awakening but not enough to satisfy. Overall this album is a must have and it always gets a spin on my CD player. It will soon be re-released so get it whilst you can because you are missing out if you have not got it!!
