Product Description

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A STANDARD RESCUE MISSION

Private Travis Buckley and his friends from Bandit Company were strictly rear echelon types – a support platoon for the Alpha Elite Commandos of the Stellar Armada. When an orbital disaster destroys their ship, Travis and fellow survivors Ernie “Struts” McCaskey and Private Numbnuts go from being “in the rear with the gear” to the forefront of an improbable rescue mission that could plunge the entire Confederation into intergalactic war with the mysterious Machai Legion.
Dr. Arnac has been kidnapped by terrorists in black rumored to be a Machai death squad, only the Machai vanished into the depths of interstellar space centuries ago. Arnac is carrying a secret in his head that can’t be allowed to fall into enemy hands. Alpha Elite’s orders are clear: reacquire Dr. Arnac, or make sure he doesn’t leave Askura alive.
The survivors of the crash landing must mount a desperate rescue and fight their way across trackless jungles filled with ancient civilizations, exotic beauties, and deadly predators. If they can survive becoming bullet bait, they must lay siege to the lost city and halt the diabolical Machai plan to conquer Earth. The enemy didn’t count on one thing: Travis and the Bandits are determined not to fail!

Fans of James Cameron, Harry Harrison, and John Ringo will enjoy this classic tale of military SF adventure.

I didn't think anyone wrote stories like this these days. Boy meets girl, girl swoons. Girl gets captured by monsters and rescued by boy, and swoons. Mad scientist working for Evil Boss creates mutant monster using radioactive magic potion. Mutant monster captures girl, boy goes in pursuit, etc... Think 'Tarzan and Jane with Guns' and you won't be far off.

By the time I reached the last 20% of the book it was almost painful, I really had to force myself to keep going to the end. Don't spend time on this book even if the price drops to zero.

Painfull 7 Jan 2012

I hate to run books down believing that each has some merit, but this one has me stumped.
Maybe its because it is co-authored and each of the authors is from a different background. Maybe they each wrote alternative chapters, I just dont know.
It is all over the place, bits taken from American war films and Sci fi books from the 60s 70s. Its started off well enough but after the crash landing on the planet it went down hill real fast. How can you send a starship on a rescue mission and then be caught out by orbital defences, surely seeing as how one of the authors is x military he would have had the planet recce'd (reconed for Americans) first? Then you have monsters and peace loving pretty humaniods that speak a sort of Spanish. I could go on but won't dont waste the space on your Kindle with this. Sorry Folks it really, really bad.

Afternoon Escape 26 July 2011

An enjoyable way to pass away a lazy afternoon. Space travel, unknown lands, military high jinx, good vs evil, beautiful women and many more staples necessary for good sci-fi action. Perfect for teens and up. Go ahead and make an afternoon escape to the tropical paradise of Askura for some action and adventure. I enjoyed it and think you will too.

Too short to rate a full 4 stars. This book would've been great with a 50% increase. As it is it could be the start of a brand new series or not. In it we have a group of crashlanded rescuers determined to stop a plot by a mysterious group that at one point in the past headed out into deep space to get in touch with the darkness that lurks between the stars.
