From the Publisher

More Latin for those who really want to learn Latin
The second in a three-part course, Book II continues the successful format of presenting grammar and vocabulary on the left-hand pages while testing the new material in exercises on the right-hand pages. New grammar includes 3rd declension adjectives, personal and demonstrative pronouns, relative clauses, 4th and 5th declension nouns, passive verbs and the comparison of adjectives. The book completes the essential groundwork for the GCSE course and for those doing Common Entrance Level 2 or 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to the good old days 1 Oct 2011

I bought this series to help me retrieve my deeply buried Latin in support of my daughter's Latin GCSE. I was concerned that the material she was being given in the Cambridge Course texts (which is her set book) whilst attractive, glossy and interesting somehow avoided some of the pain that all Latinists seem to enjoy!

Of course it is great that Latin is back on the curriculum in a state school and I think that the Cambridge material is first class for other reasons of raising and maintaining interest. Where Oulton's little series really comes into its own is in tackling head on some of the disciplines of Latin learning from the outset. It is therefore a great complement to Cambridge. For those of a certain age there is a real touch of nostalgia in that Oulton (an old Carthusian I believe)deploys a real sense of the idiosyncratic humour that was the stock in trade of the traditional Latin prep school master. A very good little series that will strongly support budding Classicists.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not if you have a choice. 16 Mar 2013

I didn't - this and Book 1 were the texts for a Latin evening class for adults. The language content of the books is reasonable. The jokes, the illustrations and the overall tone are redolent of a prep school in the 60s. And sexist with it. I also resented having to purchase separately the essential books of answers - a few pages only, some of which were bound out of sequence.
