Product Description

What is creativity and how do we teach it?

The Really Useful Creativity Book provides approaches and ideas that will enable children to develop their creativity. Written for the primary school teacher, student or trainee teacher, the book shows you how creativity can flourish in your classroom.

With examples of practice included throughout, the issues covered include:

  • everyday creativity – ideas to get started on straight away
  • planning – with ideas for cross-curricular planning, and many other ways to plan for creativity
  • creativity and the environment – starting with the classroom and school, then going further afield
  • creative Partnerships – working with other people to stimulate children’s creativity
  • the drama of creativity – showing how teachers can adopt the mantle of the expert
  • thinking about creativity – thinking skills for your children, and ways of thinking for you.

This lively, stimulating book will help busy teachers working with the National Curriculum to develop children’s creativity.

I thoroughly enjoyed my read of "The Really Useful Creativity Book." It reminded me, at times, of the Roger Mc Gough poem, "First day at School" where we're asked to consider whether the purpose of the "railings" is to "keep out wolves and monsters" or to stop us, "running away from lessins." "Lessins," whatever they might be, surrounded by literal and metaphorical barriers into the bargain, sound as enigmatic as creativity itself and here in "The Really Useful Creativity Book," the authors take an informed, optimistic and pragmatic swipe at the slippery wee beastie. The examination of the definition of creativity is engaging and there are plenty of sound ideas to foster creative learners using integrated approaches to lessons. If, like myself, you are a student fascinated by creativity or if you're a teacher, maybe feeling as though SATs have sapped your creative flow, I'd like to think you'd find this book a source of much inspiration.

A disappointment 31 Jan 2010

This must have been written for folks with absolutely no creative intuition -- the ideas are quite common and boring. My young son's imagination is a better source of inspiration and I would expect the same to be true for anyone with the slightest inclination for daydreaming. Save your money.
