Brilliant . . . laugh-out-loud funny (Daily Telegraph)

Outrageously funny . . . will have you in stitches (Time Out)

Product Description

Is It Really Too Much To Ask? is the fifth book in Jeremy Clarkson's bestselling The World According to Clarkson series.

Well, someone's got to do it: in a world which simply will not see reason, Jeremy sets off on another quest to beat a path of sense through all the silliness and idiocy.

And there's no knowign what might catch Jeremy's eye along the way. It could be:

-The merits of Stonehenge as a business model

-Why all meetings are a waste of time

-The theft of the Queen's cows

-One Norwegian man's unique approach to showing his gratitude

-Fitting a burglar alarm to a tortoise

-Or how Lou Reed was completely wrong about what makes a perfect day

Pithy and provocative, this is Clarkson at his best, taking issue with whatever nonsense gets in the way of his search for all that's worth celebrating. Why should we be forced to accept stuff that's a bit rubbish? Shouldn't things work? Why doesn't someone care? I mean, is it really too much to ask?

It's a good thing we've still got Jeremy out there, still looking, without fear or favour, for the answers.

Jeremy Clarkson becomes the hilarious voice of a nation once more in Is It Really Too Much To Ask?, Volume 5 of The World According To Clarkson, following bestselling titles The World According to Clarkson, And Another Thing, For Crying Out Loud and How Hard Can It Be?.

Praise for Clarkson:

'Brilliant... laugh-out-loud' Daily Telegraph

'Outrageously funny... will have you in stitches' Time Out

5.0 out of 5 stars PURE CLARKSON 15 Dec 2013
By Clive
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's a peculiarity of our language that I might be asked "Do you like Jerremy Clarkson?" and I hesitate to answer. Because I want to say "Yes" but, in fact, I don't much like Mr Clarkson at all. I do, however, like his output very much. I like watching him in interviews, I make a point of watching Top Gear and I, generally, like reading his short ramblings. I find it a bit disturbing that, even though I think he's a poor example of a human, I find myself agreeing with lots of what he says. Even when what he says is, clearly, mad. If there is such a thing, then I think that I must be a 'closet Clarkson'.

I don't read newspapers so, every now and then, I buy one of these collations of his newspaper column articles. I know that it's a rip off because Mr C has not written these as a book and he's already been paid for writing them once before by the paper. Also, because he is surprisingly popular, Amazon set the price of even the Kindle version at the 'extortion' rate. Nevertheless, I usually take a chance for a chortle.

I've read quite a lot of JC's output and it isn't all consistent; some is just a bit dull and some of the earlier efforts haven't stood the test of time too well. But there are no such problems with this volume; it is Jeremy Clarkson at his very best. It is provocative, irreverent, thought provoking, outrageous, ludicrous and all expressed in Mr C's trademark style of writing exactly as he would speak. When reading this, it's as though I was propped at a bar with JC on the next bar stool expounding directly to me. Delicious!

You will be reading this review either because you are a Clarkson fan or because you are considering buying this book as a gift for someone. In either case, go for it. You will either read and enjoy or the recipient will revel in it gleefully and then tell you that they don't really like Jeremy Clarkson!

3.0 out of 5 stars Losing the edge! 21 Feb 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I like Clarkson. I've read most of his books and given some good reviews. However, whilst a fine wine can improve with age, there does come a time when the contents of the bottle start to deteriorate and eventually sour. We've had umpteen books now from Clarkson and it's all getting a little repetitious. Indeed, Clarkson does cover the same ground several times in the space of a few chapters in this latest volume. Also his assertion that he wants to decapitate various people is (maybe) funny once but not several times. Moreover, Clarkson sometimes fails to make any meaningful point in his ramblings. Don't get me wrong, sometimes his comments are spot on - he dares to put in print what many others wouldn't even say. However there are many chapters which aren't even that interesting. Having said that, reading this book will at least put a smile on your face several times and get you thinking!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord Clarkson at his best! 27 Dec 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
If like me you think Sir Jezza should be the PM and God knows he would do a better job than the moron we have at the moment then this is for you.
The way he points out the bleeding obvious in his fantastic way with whit, the charm of a monkey wrench and sarcasm makes me grin from ear to ear. If more people had the guts to say what they think the world, especially Britain, would be a far better place.
If you are one of the non-belivers then you need to get out more as Lord Sir Jeremy Clarkson, MBE, CBE, OBE, KBE, Any others I could think of is the man for our country and he puts up with Miss May and the Ladyboy Hamster!
Brilliant and I shall preach the gospel according to Jezza for the rest of my life.
