Format:Audio CD
I was a huge fan of Madder Rose but thought their records were in decline towards the end. I bought this on a whim and I'm so glad I did. Fresh ideas and lovely songs I can't find a bad track here. The tempo stays at a fairly even pace but feels bright and full of life from start to finish.
As the previous reviewer says Mary has plenty to sing about and she's turned that expression into one of the loveliest records I've heard.

A beautiful and pleasantly haunting record. Some distance from the furious tempo which marked Ms Lorson's contributions to Madder Rose albums, this a collection of gently lilting songs full of life. The impressive musical arrangements are driven around the piano rather than the guitar and this makes for an album which puts Lorson in the great pantheon of singer-songwriters. Stand out tracks are the eponymous Realistic and Walking Man. But don't think this is an irksome singer-songwriter tinkling on their piano kind of album - its underpinned by an accomplished musical ensemble and sung in a cool, mellow east coast tone. Best played at the end of the day.

An earlier review offered the opinion that this is the least of the 3 Saint Low albums. I have to say that to me the opposite is true. The songwriting is top notch with strong melodies and original lyrics while the overall sound, lots of piano, strings and brass, is lush and luxuriant, despite a tight budget. Importantly, the vocals are, to my ears, the best on a Saint Low album to date. One of the joys of music is responding to it exactly as you see fit and forming your own opinions. I found this album to be lovely and recommend it to anyone. (There are currently some songs from this one on their MySpace so why not have a listen and see what you think?)
