It seems that Colin just can't help adding extra feathers to his cap, as this latest foray into fiction demonstrates superbly.

Real Powers is techno-socio future-gazing word porn. Colin brings together current technological weak signals and crafts them into a plausible, convincing and may I say exciting future. It's clear that Colin knows his stuff as his descriptions of what we may see are deeply rooted in existing technology, with only a few instances of artistic licence.

Add to this the narrative of shifting societal and economic circumstances and some big explosions, and you've got the makings of some darn fine indie thriller.

Should you read the book? It's like half the price of your favourite sugary coffee-based milk beverage, so yes - of course you should.

I for one can't wait to read what happens next. Get on it, Colin.

I loved this book, I literally spent three days immersed in the world. For his first work of true fiction I was super impressed. Currently digging through part 2!

Anyone interested in the future of technology and our integration with it needs to check this out!

4.0 out of 5 stars A huge step forward 23 Jan 2013

I thought Colin's most recent travel book was dreadfully boring and uninspiring. His first work of fiction was quite the opposite. I found his vision of the future to be very interesting and the ideas about how technology can shape politics, economics and culture quite fascinating. This book was also a real (electronic) page turner for me. The story worked its way forward in a way that kept me engaged and the prose is excellent, particularly in comparison to some of CW's earlier work. It seems as though the author has changed his perspective from himself and his sexual exploits to the larger picture, including the very real threats to freedom and economic progress that we see around us. That is a splendid change and it makes me excited about reading CW's next installments in the Real Powers series.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting first attempt 16 Jan 2013

Full Disclosure: I've followed Colin for a few months now, being more interested in his traveling lifestyle than his ability to write. For the price, you can't beat this; an engaging read for the money without a doubt. Honestly, I didn't expect much for his first attempt at this genre. However, he's done pretty well and I think he shows some real promise. I'd keep an eye on this author. He may have just found his new niche, completely removed from what I would have expected from him. I sure hope he doesn't settle down and quit the travel gig though. Thanks for what you do Colin, and thanks for this. Keep at it and I'm looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't wait for the second installment 7 Jan 2013

I did not have high expectations going into this book. I recently started reading Collin's blog, and heard about the book there and decided to check it out. I was hooked from the first few pages. I liked the style of switching between characters perspectives and the use of news briefs to move the plot forward. The futuristic gadgets and dynamic between government, the media, religion, and the populace are not only entertaining but all to real. I read fiction to be entertained. Real Powers achieves that goal.
