This exam is designed to validate Windows Server 2003 Microsoft Certified Systems Administrators (MCSEs) AD, Network Infrastructure, and Application Platform Technical Specialists skills. The object of this exam is to validate only the skills that are are different from the existing MCSE skills. This exam will fulfill the Windows Server 2008 Technology Specialist requirements of Exams 70-640, 70-642, and 70-643.

The Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) on Windows Server 2008 credential is intended for information technology (IT) professionals who work in the complex computing environment of medium to large companies. The MCTS candidate should have at least one year of experience implementing and administering a network operating system in an environment that has the following characteristics: 250 to 5,000 or more users; three or more physical locations; and three or more domain controllers.

MCTS candidates will manage network services and resources such as messaging, a database, file and print, a proxy server, a firewall, the Internet, an intranet, remote access, and client computer management.

In addition MCTS candidates must understant connectivity requirements such as connecting branch offices and individual users in remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate networks to the Internet.

Well I did pass the exam but more from using Windows 2008 and TechNet than this guide....

As mentioned before there are no MP3s or other revision help, the CD has a PDF of the book on it and that is it...

I bought this book as it was the only one that covered the subject but I must admit if I was doing it again I would most likely buy the three MS-Press books that cover the three subjects, rather than this.

The book is an upgrade book yet again and again it is clear that sections of this book have been pasted from other more beginner orientated books.

Also more than once in the book were whole sections where the author had forgotten to change 2000 to 2008 after he had pasted a section of text.

Do not get me wrong this is not a bad book, but it is not up to par with the old exam-cram series that I used to use.

The front page says this book contains test exams and mp3 tracks, but none of these are available from the web site as promised. I sent an email to the Syngress customer service, but they still haven't answered me today, two weeks later. :(

The book itself is pretty good, and covers a lot of good stuff for the exam. However it's really obvious that the author gets paid by the number of words, and the book would really benefit from being shortened down by about 200 pages.

Also, I still think it's weird that they are assuming that the reader knows nothing about previous Windows versions, dispite the fact that this is an upgrade exam.

One of the few MCSE 2k3 upgrade books available it is unfortunately incomplete and full of errors. It is OK for a starting point but you will need to do a lot of supplementary reading to fill in the glaring gaps that this books leaves when compared to the syllabus.
