More About the Author

Peter Finch is a poet, critic, author and literary entrepreneur living in Cardiff, Wales. He's best know for his series of psychogeographies, alternative guide books and histories of his native city, Real Cardiff. His poetry is extensive, biting, witty and edge pushing. It is collected in his Seren published Selected Later Poems. His most recent collection (2010) is Zen Cymru from the same publisher. Watch for Edging The Estuary, on the way before too long.

"Since the early 1970s, Finch has been the principal innovator in Welsh poetry.....he deserves a Welsh knighthood." - Richard Kostelanetz, Dictionary of the Avant-Gardes

" Just this side of chaos" - Jon Gower

"almost a wave by himself...." -. Victor Golightly, NWR

and on Real Cardiff:

"This is a marvellous book - one of the very best books about a city I have ever read. It makes me feel terribly old-fashioned - superficial too, because I have never actually lived in the cities I have written about. I skip most of the poems, which I don't understand, but everything else in it is gripping me so fast that I have momentarily suspended my first ever reading of Wuthering Heights." - Jan Morris, writing to the author.

I was born and grew up in Cardiff but cant say I ever actually loved it and it`s recent developments have left me even more disenchanted but Peter Finch`s books are well worth reading for his humour and honest description and history. It`s even prompted me to go and have another look with a more informed and objective eye at some of the older parts but avoiding `The Bay` out of sheer embarrassment. How anyone can compare that with some of the other excellent developments in major cities beats me.

Format: Paperback
The book is an informative introduction and guide to Cardiff. Peter Finch uses his intimate knowledge of the city to craft a sometimes critical but always respectful image of life past and present in the city.
