Book Description

1 Sep 2011
'Shiver-me, shake-me!' said Bertie. The forest at midnight can be a scary place. Bertie has just set out on his first haunting. It's a journey that makes our little ghost feel jumpy: through a dark and lonely wood, past a howling wolf, a hissing snake, and a roaring dragon! So when he reaches a big old castle, Bertie doesn't really feel like haunting, he feels like hiding: especially when he's chased up the stairs by a dog. It's only when Bertie takes refuge in a draughty attic that he finds the perfect place to take up his position as resident ghost. A spine-tingling bedtime story that explores feelings of overcoming anxieties and feeling secure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Woooooooooo! Scary! 2 Dec 2011
Format:Hardcover
This is a lovely book about a frightened little ghost trying to find somewhere nice to haunt and getting frightened by the big bad world. ( I was actually quite scared myself when the wolf appeared!) Each page is beautifully illustrated and I particularly liked the small details such as the button plates and thimble vase in the tiny castle. Look out for the little cast of characters looking on from above too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully done, a bit twee 21 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
I think for younger children this is excellent - my 4 year old usually likes things with a bit more bite but she insisted I bought her this. She's obsessed with ghosts & skeletons & things like this, but this is suitable for the easily-spooked.

A little ghost is afraid of all the scary things he encounters in the wood and eventually finds a tiny toy castle in a scary big castle, and some teeny tiny dolls/fairies (not sure which) who are looking for a tiny ghost to haunt them. So everyone's happy.

The illustrations are gorgeous, the text is full of nicely worded repetitions that small children will love. It has no edge, and I like an edge. My 2 and 4 year olds both like it a lot.
