Format: Hardcover
I have never reviewed a business book before, as I am a Surgeon and don't really have the time. I am moved - no, compelled - to write a review for this particular book because of the fantastic value I have received. I am fascinated by management literature and have read multiple books by all the most famous Guru's: from Peter Drucker to Charles Handy and from Tom Peters and Tom Kelley to Ram Charan. These are all great authors and give a great deal of insight into the business world. BUT they are all aimed at people who run companies already worth hundreds of millions of dollars. They all have insights that apply to smaller enterprises, but I have never felt inspired to start something new based on these works.

I have an idea that I feel will be a mega-hit. I had always assumed that I would have to write a business plan, get angel funding, start the enterprise, after a certain stage get VC funding, and the world would be my oyster. Not any more!

I have been reading the EarlyToRise newsletter since some time. I always liked what Michael Masterson wrote, and read all his pieces, and felt that he had the Doing-Knowledge, as opposed to the Talking-Knowledge of most Guru's. I have always looked with interest at the books that he has written, but till now did not buy any of the other as the target market was different to me. However, when I saw this book, I could not resist pre-ordering it, and devoured it as soon as it arrived.

WOW! It is really packed with the most invaluable insights that you could EVER have about starting a SMALL Business and Turbocharging its growth. I have thrown out most of my previous learning and have totally revamped my plans.

As a fabulously successful businessman and author, millionaire Michael Masterson certainly qualifies to advise budding entrepreneurs. You can't help but be impressed by his accomplishments, and his enthusiasm and energy are contagious. Masterson's basic premise makes a lot of sense: don't wait until you've fine-tuned your product or service. Shoot from the hip. Fire before you aim. Don't worry about being perfect - just get it on the market. Masterson explains that early in his career, he spent too much time tweaking newsletters instead of focusing on selling them. He uses his experiences to provide instructive lessons for the reader throughout the book. The problem is that Masterson - or anyone else, for that matter - can't give you talent or motivation. If you have the ability and drive, however, getAbstract believes that he can help you squeeze every ounce of potential from your business venture.

Having built a successful business, and been associated with a failed business, I now understand why the one succeeded and the other failed.

Reading this book got me going and even though I have been retired for two years I now feel I would like to try something else.

This is quite simply one of the best business books I've ever read.

Anyone who achieves the kind of results the author has, successively, obviously knows what he's doing, and has something worthwhile to share.

In the book the author reveals his key principle. In fact, it's in the title on the jacket too.

The basic premise is that so many business owners waste months (or even years) fine-tuning their products and services, trying to get them 'perfect' before making them available to their customers and prospects.

whereas the author's "Ready, Fire, Aim" approach is to just get on with it. Launch your new product or service despite it's imperfections, then get live feedback from the only people whose feedback really matter... actual paying customers and clients.

Then you can (if necessary) refine and relaunch version two of the product, based on what your paying customers actually want rather than what non-paying customers -- or your 'gut feeling' -- has suggested.

In an nutshell I wish I'd read this back in 2005 when I started writing my first book... and I wouldn't have spent three years writing it.

I highly recommend this book, especially if you're in the process of launching a new product or service but "it's taking a lot longer than expected because it's not ready yet".

If it has the same effect on you as it did for me then this book could spur you to stop procrastinating (another word for perfectionism), get to market faster, and get feedback *and* cash rolling sooner rather than later.

What a delightful book. The wealth of knowledge, experience and wisdom of Michael Masterson leap out at you from every page. There are no wasted words here; just pure gold. He imparts all of this in the manner of an older sibling, with genuine care, trying to pass on the most important information and always straight to the point.
Every type of business, at any stage, can benefit immensely from this book and I can't recommend it highly enough.
You'll save thousands of dollars, and precious time, avoiding the most common pitfalls, very quickly ascertain the viability of your ideas/products/services, how to upscale and expand when you find your winner.
This book is a complete attitude changer and gave me a much larger vision. Delivered with friendly humility, the reader is treated as an equal by an astounding achiever. Even if it isn't your goal to reach $100 million, or more, the blue print and principles are laid out right in front of you by a man who has done it over and over. It becomes no longer a matter of whether or not you can, but if you want to.
I have devoured dozens of books in this field, but this one is priceless. Full of practical measures that you can implement immediately, you will be thrilled that you made this purchase.
