I love this book. Its so simple and clearly laid out. In the past I have purchased a lot of home study learn Greek books but always found them to difficult for an absolute beginner. I've been using it a long side their First 100 words in Greek and I can't believe how rapidly my greek is improving. I've even mastered the dreaded Alphabet. The thing I love most about it is that grammar rules which other books take 2 pages to explain are explained in 2 sentences and then supported by plenty of exercises. Having used this book as a base I now feel much more comfortable moving on to other self study books.

With a different alphabet, Greek is never going to be the easiest language to learn. However, I am picking it up far quicker then I ever imagined I would and am even reading the greek script quite well. The combination of exercises and cut-out cards, backed up by the audio CD, keeps it fun and interesting and the CD is invaluable for pronunciation. I do find the lists of key words rather random at times (a list may contain the words for cupboard, car and mouse for example) and would ideally have liked a wider range of vocabulary grouped together by subject.

If you are looking for a structured language course this is not the book for you, but if you just want a simple and inexpensive introduction to Greek that will allow you to speak and read the basic language quite quickly, I would highly recommend this book.

Learning Greek? 24 Nov 2009

I do not find learning new languages easy and had used their 100 Greek Words book and CD, which were fantastic. I am not quite so pleased with this. There is less opportunity to test yourself using the CD. The CD exercises do not tie into the text as well as they might.

That said it is still a whole lot friendly than other books and CDs I've tried.
