Her first collection, Beyond Calling Distance (Bloodaxe 2001), was the winner of the Aldeburgh Festival Poetry Prize for ‘the best first collection published in Britain and Eire in 2001’. Esther was runner-up in ‘Six of the Best: Best New Talent 2002’.
