Luis is an adrenaline junkie but living far away from his family's original home town has allowed him to keep away from the gang culture that sucked in both of his older brothers Alex and Carlos. Luis is the smart one, the one the whole family has high hopes for and the one who dreams of doing something important with his life. As much as his brothers have both turned their back on the gang culture they have always tried to protect Luis so he was never drawn into that life in the first place. But returning to the family home in Fairfield with his mother means reuniting Luis with all his old friends - friends who are now in gangs and who want Luis to join them. Luis first met Nikki at Alex's wedding but she doesn't want anything to do with a boy from the wrong side of town who is hanging out with gang members. History has taught her that boys like Luis are bad for you so no matter how hot she finds him she isn't going to give in to him easily. Luis is drawn to Nikki but are his feelings for her enough to stop him from following in his brother's footsteps and making the worst mistake of his life?
I really can't resist the Fuentes brothers and Luis was no exception to that.Read more ›
Firstly, I found that the main plot was waaaaaaaay too similar to the one in Perfect Chemistry for my liking. It didn't feel like anything original, and I found it to be a bit of a drag because it was something I had read before except with a more likeable main character.
That said, I really enjoyed seeing more of the other Fuentes brothers and their mother and their other halves. Alex is adorable, and while I don't really like Carlos that much, he was still fun to read about.
I wasn't a fan of Luis at all. I think I'm tired of the whole arrogant bad boy attitude he - and the other Fuentes brothers - had going on. His character didn't really change that much throughout the book, so that sucked in the development department.
I did, however, really like Nikki, but I think her character suffered from the amount of focus that was on Luis. Nikki had huge issues with sex and love and the male gender, and I would have liked to have seen her deal with those things and to grow more. Instead, the gang plot and Luis took over.
I also didn't really like the epilogue. Call me a sceptic, but I didn't find it very realistic that the series wrapped up how it did.
Anyway, I know it sounds as though this was a bad book, but it wasn't. Not by any means. It just lacked the originality of its predecessors and as I am such a huge fan of the first book, I was left disappointed.
Luis Fuentes is a risk taker, he loves the adrenaline rush that runs through his veins when he takes the ultimate risk. Nikki Cruz has been made a full of once by a boy who said "I love you" and she is sure as hell not going to let it happen again. Then she meets Luis at Alex's wedding and she's tempted to break her rule. Luis and Nikki meet each other two years later, and well...sparks start to fly.
I love, love, love the first two books, they are incredible! I had to wait a whole year for this one to come out in the UK and boy was it worth the wait. Elkeles has delivered everything readers want on a gold plate. Be prepared to fall endlessly in love with this Fuentes brother.
Luis is determined, hot and clever. He tries his best to not follow in his brother's footsteps because he has a goal; he wants to be an astronaut. I know, I know, the hot Mexican wants to be an astronaut, don't judge. I really admire his courage, strength and the lengths he would go to to protect his family.
When he meets Nikki, he turns his charm on and it is absolutely hilarious. I can guarantee that you will laugh uncontrollably at some point in this book. The characters are witty and very entertaining. If you have not read this series then go and buy it now! However much it costs, IT'S WORTH IT!
Overall, Chain Reaction is the perfect conclusion to this trilogy. The Perfect Chemistry trilogy has been an exciting and thrilling roller-coaster that will stay with me for a very long time. I would recommend this series to everyone and I cannot wait to read more of Simone Elkeles' works.
