Re-Cycle was released back in 2006, I have been waiting for 6 years to see this film and finally it has been released in the UK.
After watching the Pang Brothers' brilliant horror film "The Eye" I was expecting much the same for this. Not just the usual jumps and scares you get from supernatural horror movies but also those scenes which just make you feel so uncomfortable and linger with you long after the film has finished. I am glad to say, Re-Cycle has delivered that and more.
This first 3rd of the film follows the familiar routine of the horror genre. Best-selling author begins writing a book about the supernatural when suddenly, strange things occur around her house. Figures moving in the corner of her eye, finding strands of long dark hair, the mysterious phone calls of disturbing noises. But then our main protagonist is thrown into a world of disturbing yet beautiful imagery. A reality consisting of everything which has ever been abandoned or forgotten. Be it a lost toy, an idea not put into action or a relative, long since departed. This is where the film knocks it up a notch, giving some real emotional response as well as an over lining moral which really makes you think about how you live your life.
Fantastic special effects, brilliant performance from Angelica Lee. Re-Cycle is more than just another asian horror movie. And I really do hope that there is no plans for the inevitable American remake.
