Where has this product been all my life?!
For years I've struggled to create the perfect pizza at home. I've wrestled with different types of trays, some with holes in, some without and expensive pizza "stones" which require heating up beforehand and are lethally hot when they come out the oven.
This is the simplest, cheapest and importantly most effective method I've found so far.
All it is is a heatproof plastic mesh circle. Either your home made dough and topping, or a shop bought pizza go directly on top (because it's so flat and light you can just put it on the worktop and make directly onto it), you slide it on an over shelf, wait for 10 mins and get it out.
The mesh means heat gets to all parts of the base evenly and also that water vapour can escape from the bottom as it cooks. Goodbye pizzas with wet and soggy middles and burnt edges. Hello even and crisp bases.
You might want to experiment and adjust cooking time. The more efficent heating thanks to the mesh means you might want to reduce times by a few minutes to prevent overcooking.
Because it is plastic it doesn't retain heat long, so once it's out the oven you can handle it relatively quickly and simply slide the pizza onto a plate. Rapid cooling also means you don't have to worry about burning your worktop, or other family members, as you do with pizza stones.
It cleans easily, the mesh design means there is less area for anything to stick to. We've made numerous pizzas now and it has yet to require more of a clean than a simple wipe with a damp cloth.
The manufacturers claim you can also bake other things on it, including meat and veg, in a healthier way as no fat is required. I've yet to try this use for it, I'm too busy making pizza!
