3.0 out of 5 stars Re-machined 10 Sep 2012

It's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

There are some "regular" versions; both HS, Maybe I'm a Leo, never before and Lazy, all in a rather "classic" rock/blues/heavy format; and then the surprises... Good and very bad...

Chickenfoot's version of Highway Star is a good rockin Live rendition of the song, although it is a bit chaotic, while the Hughes/Vai version is very powerful, swingin and cleaner and benefits of a great intro. Both versions are good.

Maybe I'ma Leo has a good funky groove added to it, thanks to (again) Hughes and Chad Smith. Very good version.

BLS version of Pictures of Home is somehow in a balladesque mood, which surprised me at first, but I like the fact that they gave it another go. It's rather well done.

Never Before is nicely performed by top musicians Joe Elliot, Matt Sorum, steve Stevens and Duff McKagan. Well done.

Both SotW are awful, especially Santana's, I cannot stand his addition to the opening riff, I immediatly have to press "next" before the intro is over.

I think Flaming Lips 's version is good in its own world of experimentation (think Residents or Kraftwerk) but has nothing to do on this-rather rock- tribute album.

Lazy is a battlefield for guitars and organ. Bonamassa shines. Extremely well executed solos and vocals (Jimmy Barnes), but the rhythm section is just not swingin' at all...It just doesn't groove the way it should.

Maiden's Space truckin is just awful. You can just feel that they couldn't care less and recorded in between two mojito's. The sound is just awful too, especially the sound of the drums-sounds like it's been taken with just the over-heads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD 14 Jun 2013

There are some fantastic versions of the original tracks performed by superb bands and musicians. It's a CD I will continue to listen to and enjoy. The accompanying magazine though was a big disappointment, Classic Rock seem more concerned with advertising revenues and acting as a PR platform for Joe Bonamassa rather than doing a proper Deep Purple tribute to a classic rock album.

4.0 out of 5 stars great tribute 13 April 2013

some excellent new versions of classic songs, for example two totally different takes on "smoke on the water", both great for different reasons, ideal for deep purple fans or just rock fans in general

3.0 out of 5 stars Disapointing!!! 11 Jan 2013

With names such as: Santana, Bonamassa, Iron Maiden and Metallica. - I couldn't wait to hear the album. And they did not diasppoint. Deep Purple and their loyal followers should be well pleased.
However, the pathetic attempt at 'Smoke On The Water' by The Flamimg Lips completely ruined a classic track and the cd as a whole - disgraceful!!! They should be ashamed of themselves. What were the producers thinking? Everyone accepts it should not be an exact copy of the original. But, they totally trashed one of the all time great rock tracks!!!

Re-machined is the perfect tribute to a hard rock album that turns 40 this year and it makes the perfect companion to the 40th Anniversary Immersion boxset that came out recently to boot! Although I wasn't crazy about the Flaming Lips version of Smoke on The Water, every other name band and artist turns in an exceptional and killer performance! I like both the Chickenfoot and Glenn Hughes/Steve Vai versions of Highway Star and I really can't decide which one is better. Michael Anthony's bass playing and vocal screams are jaw dropping and I like that Steve Vai paid tribute to Jon Lord by playing a harmonized, Brian May-like version of Lord's Made In Japan organ introduction. And Glenn Hughes is a vocal dynamo on the song as well as on Maybe I'm A Leo. Metallica's version of When A Blind Man Cries is a real treat while BLS sound amazing on Pictures Of Home and Zakk Wylde's vocals have never sounded better. It is a great listen from start to finish, and I have to say it again that it makes a great companion set to the 40th Anniversary Machine Head remaster set. Re-machined is a tribute album that delivers and you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album 22 Oct 2012
By New fan
Format:MP3 Download|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a tribute album and not supposed to be carbon copies of the original, so all those extra licks and twists are brought in to put individual spins on great tracks.

I've been a DP fan since I can't remember when and was brought up on the band. This tribute is just that, a tribute to one of DP's classics. The only track I can't get my head around is the Flaming Lips version of Smoke.

This is a great album, enjoy it for what it is.
