This is the third in the launch collection of series of graphic novels. It's a cheeky little piece from established comic book pro and dark fantasy novelist Mike Carey.

The storyline is very strong and has three key strands (well done Shakespeare!). The first concerns the gift of a fabulous statue of a medieval Korean warrior and closely follows the plot of French literary classic 'La Ronde'; the second is a linear plot based on a knock-out tournament for Hapkido in downtown LA; and the third concerns the love-life of one of the contestants and those around her.

One of the great things about this series is the emphasis on feelings and relationships rather than the martial atmosphere of most American comic books - that's not to say there isn't action in this comic book, the Hapkido tournament becomes absolutely gripping near the end.

Perhaps the only slight weakness for me was the Korean artwork in the manhwa style. I don't find it as elegant as Japanese manga. For me, its emphasis on visual background tricks makes it seem cluttered - others I'm sure will love it.

Korean American teenager Dik Seong Jen, Jen to her family, Dixie to her friends, lives in LA and has a talent for Korean martial art hapkido, until she is distracted by a crush on her school and hapkido classmate surfer boy Adam. A great story of how Dixie comes to terms with her feelings, her sense of identity and has a great feel good happy ending.

well the reviewer above pretty much covered the storyline, but I've gotta say that I loved the artwork of this book. If you want to see something alittle less cartoony, abit scratchy, and filled with background details, this is te book for you! now as stated above, this style definately isn't for everyone; more cartoony than most minstream western stuff, but significantly more 'straight-laced' than a majority of manga, but definately worth a looking at.

Just a quick note on the story, i actually found it alittle 'sharp' onm first readthrough, that the different threads didn't combine prehaps as well as they could have done, but i still fund this an enjoyable book which reminded me very much of an 80s feel-good flick, with a little social commentary on racism thrown in.

Definately one of my favourite graphic novels, and pocket-sized for ease of carrying (not to mention alittle over £5).
