Practical? Check. Readable? Check. Do-able? Check. Rather then expound some ivory tower theory, Wilcox and Ridderstrale have lived and breathed what this book is about, and this is the culmination of their experiences working with a diverse set of organisations and individuals. Avoiding all those irritating "management speak" clichés, the book is written as if the authors are having a conversation with you. The first part reviews in a snappy, up-to-date and relevant way, the trends of management and organisations over the last few years. It gives the opportunity to reflect on how your own organisation stacks up against the past and begins to probe and challenge where you think it might go in the future (bearing in mind the rapid pace of change). Having done the thinking and reflecting part, you then move on to the second section of the book which gives the "how" to make potential changes happen. This is done through the explanation and application of the ground-breaking 3E model in conjunction with a set of insightful and challenging questions. All eminently usable and very practical.

The book recognises that whilst some theories and techniques have stood the test of time, there has been a subtle shift in thinking and focus. It captures the zeitgeist of not only how you inspire and develop people, but how you manage your business in today's changeable times.

Their style is punchy, readable, fast, modern and entertaining. However, running under this sometimes light-hearted approach, is a serious undercurrent of sound, empirical and solid advice.

After reading Funky Business I was looking forward to the latest offering from Jonas Ridderstralle.
This new book is much more realistic and practial while still being inspiring, the 3e model makes perfect sense to me and I can see my managers understanding this leadership model and actually being able to implement it. This new pairing, Ridderstralle and Wilcox seems to work well, I have seen Mark Wilcox speak at several prestigious HR summits and always found him an exciting and fascinating orator, I would recommend you hunt him out. If you are interested in change management and leadership then this is a core read. Enjoyable and challenging, a great book.

I'm never sure about books so direct in their claims, How Leaders Makes Change Happen, but was pleasantly surprised to find not only some great provocation, but also some things I can do to make change a reality. Its clear that these two don't just live in the dream world, although in their Lou Reed method they clearly have some inspiration from dreaming about the perfect day. 3E, their model of leadership is not complex, in fact in some ways not so new, but the way they present it makes it seem logical and able to be implemented.

It seem's to me that they have something for us leaders of people and projects that is worth taking the trouble to read.

In fact reading this book is not so hard, not like some texts on change, it like hearing a great story in a bar - with some strong points, you agree with and some that just make you think !!
