The 52 ideas or "mini" chapters are bite-sized and easily digestible, presented in an informative and conversational manner, like a modern glossy magazine.. There are also Q & As at the end of each idea, that resemble an agony aunt's column.
The book has an eclectic approach, covering a wide range of somewhat fashionable 'points of inspiration', referencing rather heavily from key writers in the field, for example David Deida, John A. Lee, Dr Alan Altman, Olivia St Claire, J. K. Collins, John Gray, Laura Corn, Brigid McConville and Ann Hooper. More than a passing nod is made to Eastern philosophy, such as Kaizen and Tantra, and liberally peppered throughout are pithy quotes from historical masters and mistresses of wisdom, be they Hollywood celebrities or famous pundits. I found these quotes to be a worthwhile addition and funnily accurate..or even accurately funny!
Re-energise Your Sex Life is less about reading an essay or analysing, but actually doing.. so there are curiously no pictures of sexual positions or great explications.. You never feel you are being talked at or counselled to or led into the arcane.
However it might be said that the opposite is true, as literally it takes a few minutes to read a chapter. Elizabeth Wilson's intention was not to "wade through waffle or thresh through theory to get at those grains of genius".
This is a book that has been 'chatted up' to appeal to as wide a readership as possible, in a manner so disarming that it could be thumbed on your straight-laced mum's coffee table without raising an eye brow.
