5.0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS - BUT CHECK RAZORPITS WEBSITE FIRST 13 Jan 2013
By Dave R TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Like most men who shave using a blade, I don't like being mugged for the extortionate cost of a new blade every 6-8 shaves. As I also shave my head with a HeadBlade fitted with a Gillette Sensor cartridge, I was paying twice as much.

I'd seen this item being sold for a while & decided to give a try - it was on offer at the time. It's a strange contraption, basically a piece of silicone(?) rubber, stretched over a hard plastic base, which you use to clean your razor blade. After trying different methods with it, I find that I'm now getting about 60 shaves per blade. So that means that instead of buying approximately 100 ish blades a year, I'm only using about 15 - & at about 1.00 a blade - that's a good saving.

I use it immediately after I've used my razors & have found that it works best with hand wash gel, two squirts on the end. I use firm pressure on the cartridge & slide it six times along the pit. It took me a bit of playing around to get to this

HOWEVER - before you buy I suggest you take a look at the Razorpit website as the information given here is slightly misleading. Razorpit do not claim 150 shaves, they say a more realistic "10 - 60". Neither do they claim it will work with any blade, rather they give a compatibility list. I seem to remember that they cannot be used with blades that have "protection" wires on them.

I'm happy with it & would recommend it

I thought it was about time I wrote a review on this. I have been using the "Razorpit" razor blade sharpener for about 10 months now, and frankly I feel a little guilty not telling the world about it.

I have to admit to being a bit mean. I actually see myself as someone who likes value for money, but most people who know me shake their heads in disbelief at my reactions when I feel I am being taken advantage of. I guess this is one of those moments...

So, I had been looking for a deal on some new razor blades as I was on my last one. It is getting a little tired and I felt I was going to have to bite the bullet and pay the full whack on some new ones. I end up searching online and I discover this. Due to some bad reviews that are leaving me in two minds I think about it for a few days. Anyhow, after those few days I do a quick calculation and figure that this is going to cost about the same as a pack of 5 razors - and if it works then fantastic.

So the "Razorpit" arrives a few days later and it doesn't look much. I try it (on my already tired razor) and it feels almost like new again. I have been using it on the Gillette fusion blades - and I have re-used all the old ones that were in the holder that I was about to throw out. Honestly, I know that is mean, but it feels great to get one up on Mr. Gillette after all these years of pushing their prices up.

The only razor I have purchased since buying this was some disposable ones that were on offer. I thought that they would be worth trying but I only I managed to get about 2 weeks out of one of those. The secret is in the rear side of the razor. If it is open at the back (rather than boxed closed like this disposable one was) then you can make the blade last a lot longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works! 14 Aug 2011

I saw this advertised elsewhere but it was cheaper at Amazon. I was sceptical but it had good reviews.

I wanted to use it for a while before writing a review so I've been using it for over 3 weeks.

It looks like the plastic razor holder that comes with your razor, but coated in silicone rubber. I was still a sceptic. I hadn't shaved for a few days and I took an old Mach 3 razor that hardly cut. You put some shaving foam or gel (I've used both with it) on the flat base, press the blade against it and push the "wrong way" 4 times, pressing down reasonably hard then rinse off both the blade and razor pit. Packaging says that blades don't stop cutting because they go dull, its because they get clogged with hair and skin, the Razor-pit cleans the blades, not sharpens them.

Wow, it was like a new blade, shaving close without any irritation. After each use repeat the process above which takes seconds. So 3 weeks later I am still using the same blade and its as sharp as new. With blades around 1.50 this is going to pay for itself in no-time.

I also tried it with an old Wilkinson Sword Quattro blade and that came out sharp as new too.

I recommend this to anyone who wet-shaves and either wants to save money or reduce waste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems to work 27 April 2012
I had seen an advert for these and was scheptical, but curious so I thought I'd give it a go.

I had a (Wilkinson Sword Quattro, with the wire balde guards) razor with a blade that had become really tuggy and verging on painful to use. I decided to shave half my face with the unsharpened blade and half with. The first half as expected was tuggy. Half way through I washed the blade off and used the Razorpit as instructed. For the second half, low and behold it was like a new blade.

I live in quite a hard water area and you can see from looking at old blades etc that there is a buildup of soap scum etc. I assume that this must also build up on the cutting edges making them less sharp. The Razorpit will take these deposits off the blades making them work properly again.
