Product Description

Razer BlackWidow

Built with the Razer mechanical switches, the Razer BlackWidow will help you take your game to the next level with more speed and precision. By redefining the limits of performance, this elite gaming keyboard lets you leave the competition in the dust, even faster than before.

World's First Mechanical Switch Designed For Gaming

The Razer BlackWidow features the Razer mechanical switches that have been designed from the ground up with the aim of elevating the speed and responsiveness of the Razer BlackWidow gaming keyboard beyond the capabilities of other mechanical switches. Tested and validated by the eSports athletes, we have identified the optimal actuation distance and reduced the tolerance for faster commands and greater precision when compared to standard mechanical switches. Made to also withstand rigorous physical demands, you can enjoy greater performance and durability.

The Benchmark in The World Of Competitive Gaming

The Razer mechanical switch is designed to actuate at an optimal distance of 1.9 mm into the keystroke and reset itself to fire again at less than half the distance of standard mechanical switchesusp. This allows for blazing fast actuations without having the need to bottom down into the keystroke each time.

Razer Mechanical Switches

Designed specifically for gaming, the Razer mechanical switches actuate at an optimal distance, giving you speed and responsiveness like never before.

Iconic Razer Design

The Razer BlackWidow was first launched in 2010. Equipped with the Razer mechanical switches, it continues to raise the bar for mechanical gaming keyboards all over the world.

Greater Durability

No matter how intense your gaming marathons get, each Razer mechanical switch is engineered to withstand up to 60 million keystrokes, so you’ll enjoy the Razer advantage for longer.

Pro Gamer Validated

"Having used the BlackWidow as my default keyboard for all these years, and watching it evolve is truly amazing. Razer takes what is already the best and makes it even better. The new switches feel great and give me total control of each keystroke. This is unlike anything that I have experienced before. ” Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng Counter Logic Gaming | League of Legends

10 Key Rollover

Never miss a single key, or ten for that matter. With built-in anti-ghosting technology, the Razer BlackWidow lets you execute up to ten commands at the same time, each time.

Razer Synapse Enabled

Razer Synapse is a cutting-edge, intuitive software that functions as the Razer BlackWidow’s brain, automatically syncing the gaming keyboard to a cloud server to download driver and firmware updates and also saving your individual settings. Sync your custom settings and macros automatically with this unified configurator, allowing customisation of all your Razer products with a single login.

Razer products often polarise people with their high prices and arguably questionable durability. I myself have fallen foul of a previous Razer device (Imperator mouse) that turned faulty within a few months, as the replacement did too, so I was initially hesitant about this product. However on the strong recommendation of a friend who owns the 2013 variant I took the plunge and so far after a month I do not regret it.

The first thing to hit me was the build quality. From the first session of typing and gaming, the product felt like it would last and take some punishment. The keys are incredibly responsive (more apparent in games than typing) with the new MX Cherry Green living up to the recommendation in responsiveness and durability. I tested in Titanfall as I thought the rather quick gameplay and parkour would be a perfect testbed, and my movement just felt completely seemless with minimal delay between keystroke and action. I am unsure how the Greens compare to the 2013 variant's Cherry Reds, but so far I am impressed. Even when typing, the keys just feel nice. There is a noticeable "click" that comes with key pressing on mechanical keyboards, but it is far from irritating. However there is a "Stealth" version with quieter keys that costs more if you are bothered by this, but I cannot comment on that product. It is worth noting that the Blackwidow is deceptively heavy but with mechanical keys and USB slots this should not really be surprising.

As mentioned there is a USB connection which can be incredibly useful for memory sticks and controllers. There are also 4 macro keys at the left hand side of the keyboard with fully programmable actions and delays. I admit I have not tested this function yet, but I imagine will be quite useful for the MMO gamers out there.

Purchased the UK version of this keyboard in PC World / Currys, same price as Amazon.

Not new to gaming keyboards or mechanical keyboards having owned a variety over the years.

Too early to tell what durability will ultimately be like, however out of the box build quality is top notch. Robust, weighty, no flex on the backplane... I'm inclined to believe it has a steel backplane due to the weight, but this is hidden beneath a plastic baseplate.

Pros (in no particular order):
-Detachable standard micro or mini usb cable (can't be bothered to look up which it is, I forget).
-Compact size due to not having a numpad, with standard size keys, makes it easy to work with on your desk.
-Able to disable the windows key in game (or windows for that matter).
-Easy to read font on keycaps, however the font may not be to taste.
-Razer green mechanical switch is ...dare I say it... superior in feel to the Cherry MX Blue for general typing AND gaming.

Cons:
-Keycap font is unlikely to be to everyone's taste. I can tolerate it, it's easy to read but a more elegant / neutral font could have been an idea.
-Media functions require an Fn key to be held to use.
-Razer green switch is an unproven quantity - but it could well be more durable than the Cherry MX Blue - time will tell.

Got this keyboard a few days ago, and loving it, something very satisfying about every key press, even though it could be quite noisy for some, I soon got used to it. back lighting if adjustable for all lighting conditions.

only minor issue which I wouldn't blame the keyboard or Razer for was the space bar was hanging off on arrival, but it simply just pushed back on and away you go.

This being a Razer keyboard I wasn't sure since I had a bad experience with the lycosa. But it has proved me wrong and im very impressed, if your after a new mech keyboard then this is definitely worth considering. Only downside is it only has the razer synapse drivers which can be a pain if they ever break.

I've used it for about a month now and it was fine, until the caps lock LED started acting strange. Sometimes the caps lock would be on but the LED is off and vice versa. Pressing the Scroll lock key would make the Caps lock LED light up. Holding down the caps lock makes the LED flash on and off at irregular intervals.

I contacted Razer, so I'm awaiting a response from the seller for a replacement. But as a product, I would have expected better quality control from a company like Razer. A keyboard for £70 is not a joke.
It is one of the more inexpensive mechanical keyboard on the market, but nevertheless, an expensive keyboard, seeing as a 'normal' consumer could get a 'normal' keyboard for £20 or less. So it was still a significant investment.

I did not buy this product from Amazon so I cannot comment on the service.

The Razer Blackwidow Tournament Edition can be described in one word. Epic.
KEYS:
It is my first mechanical keyboard and I cannot see myself going back to membrane keyboards again. The switches are Razer's own "Razer Green" or "Clicky Keys" and they sound amazing. I am not a light fingered person so I bottom out the keys when I type. The tactile bump is virtually non-existent for me but that does not effect me that much as I normally A)Bottom it out or B)listen for the click to know when I have actuated the key. The keys were not as heavy as I was exception but they are definitely are not light. This has improved my typing speed. The keys are not backlit with the exeption of the caps lock and the scroll lock. The gaming mode key (F10) also lights up when gaming mode is on. The key-caps are of a good size and make it easy to press one key and not the one next to it. I did not feel a difference of actuation point between the keys on the keyboard and this is the only mechanical keyboard in the house so I cannot compare it to Cherry MX Blues or another mechanical switch. I would give thee keys a 5 out of 5.
LOOKS:
The keyboard looks stunning. The matte black "backing" or "chassis" looks really nice. It does not show fingerprints like a glossy plastic unless you have greasy fingers. The little Razer logo at the bottom of the keybaord does illuminate and the brightness can be adjusted in Synapse 2.0. It can also be made to pulsate. You will have noticed that this is a tenkeyless keyboard (It does not have the number pad.) Having come from a keyboard that has the number pad, I find myself moving over and tapping on my desk when I want to write numbers.
