I bought a cheaper wide angle lens over the internet and noticed the poor quality compared with using my Canon HF100 camcorder without it, very noticible on any zooming. ( I mean blurred images).
This Raynox lens came to my attention in a couple of reviews - someone experiencing exactly the same problem as me and I have to say the quality of the Raynox is good. It is not too cumbersome and works well even when zoomed, which is where wide angle lenses fall down.
Why Four stars?....The plastic adapter rings suppied are just asking to get cross threaded, so only 4/5
Set against my previous experience, this represents very good value and I bet the other reviewers are correct that Canon's own wide angle offering at twice the price is no better.

A great accessory for my old Sharp VL-PD6 video cam... in fact it should have born with it! No apparent distortions, and it's great to have (what I consider to be) normal viewing and playback. Highly recommended - really.
I bought this to film fireworks on holiday. Great improvement on the standard field of view, it is also a wider angle that the Sony accessory plus it is significantly cheaper. There is a little "fish eye" distortion around the edges but not a great deal. The plastic adaptor rings supplied will cover most cameras but I agree with what one other reviewer has said that they are a little flimsy. I've left the adaptor fitted to the camera though so it should get less stress. The lens comes in a nice plastic case rather than a soft pouch like many others do so protection in transit it good. Good performance throughout the zoom range too.
