Product Description

Synopsis

Elegantly designed and packaged in a mix of full colour and black and white comics with French flap covers, this trio of graphic novels includes Marlowe's classic final adventure, THE PENCIL, adapted from the Raymond Chandler story by award-winning mystery novelist Jerome Charyn and Marvel/DC comics illustrator David Lloyd. The collection also includes GOLDFISH, adapted by top British designer Ryan Hughes and TROUBLE IS MY BUSINESS illustrated by Alredo Alcala in a style reminiscent of 30s illustrator J.C. Leyedecker. None of this work has ever been published before and represents the first adaptations of these Chandler stories into comics. In RAYMOND CHANDLER'S MARLOWE, illustrator Michael Lark presents a brand-new incarnation of Chandler's famous fictional detective, a 'comic book' version of Chandler's 1949 mystery. When Orfamay Quest hires Marlowe to find her missing brother, the case at first seems pretty straightforward, but - beset by mobsters, blackmailers and murder - Marlowe soon discovers that a missing person is the least of his troubles.

The text is effectively tailored to clarify the original story, emphasising through Lark's 'comic noir' artwork the dark, dangerous environs, both physical and psychological, in which Philip Marlowe still moves.

this books collects three top chandler stories in comics form on heavy shiny paper. the adaptations are all terrific and "The Pencil" the adaptation of Chandler's last Marlowe short story is by Jerome Charyn, himself a top mystery writer. The art byRian Hughes for "Goldfish" is stunning. Noted comic book illustrator
David Lloyd does Charyn proud with "The Pencil." Well-priced and framed by two Steranko covers.

A great Steranko cover. Found the artwork on the first story to be the best but overall this was a great buy for anyone who likes Raymond Chandler. Totally recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Marlowe in the comic books!, 9 Feb 2010
By GWB - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Raymond Chandler's Marlowe: The Authorized Philip Marlowe Graphic Novel: The Graphic Novel (Paperback)
Raymond Chandler's Marlowe: The Graphic Novel, A Trilogy of Crime is a series of 3 stories in 1 book (2 B&W art, 1 color ART with a great cover by Jim Steranko). This adapts Chandler's stories: GOLDFISH, TROUBLE IS MY BUSINESS and THE PENCIL. The adaptations are all terrific and spot on with the novels.

GOLDFISH is in color with Bruce Timm/Darwyn Cooke style art by Rian Hughes.
The whole thing is better than Michael Lark's LITTLE SISTER adaptation... Buy this if you are a MARLOWE fan. Great stuff. Softcover Printing
