From the Back Cover

For Umi, Fuu and Hikaru, the tranquil beauty of Spring time in Tokyo is not met with their normal enthusiasm, they’ve graduated and the unwelcome prospect of attending different high schools threatens to break up their friendship. The girls make a wish to remain together, whilst beneath an enchanted cherry tree they quickly find their friendship tested in much more demanding ways than they ever expected. Mokona, the fairy residing within the legendary tree, has chosen the three friends to defend the Earth in a battle against extra-dimensional forces threatening to consume the planet. But they are not alone in their struggle, with the guidance of Clef, a rogue priest, and Lexus, the first of three ancient allies duty bound to aid the girls. Hikaru must protect her friends from the assault of Cephiro’s ice witch, Alcyone. But despite her best efforts, the castle of Cephiro has broken into our world. It now stands brooding and evil in the centre of a lifeless Tokyo.

Lantis forces Hikaru to prove her worth, sending her into a magical maze from which she can only watch as Umi and Fuu are hunted down by Ferio, the insect master and the child warlock, Ascot, who have been ordered to destroy the Knights before they can realise their destiny and threaten Cephiro’s invasion plans. Fleeing through the silent city, Fuu and Umi must seek out the sleeping Mashin, godlike creatures that will fuse with them to form giant warriors of awesome destructive power. But the Magic Knights are afraid, untrained and alone … will Mashin be enough to save them? The final battle for the survival of Earth has begun. Aided by the spirits of the dead Eagle, Lantis and Ferio attack and launch a massive assault against the Magic Knights, wielding dark energies from the castle of Cephiro itself. Eagle has sworn to destroy the girls and to kill and kill until nothing in the universe remains. His only goal is complete destruction – can even Rayearth, the awesome combination of all three Magic Knights and their spirit beasts prevent the murder of two entire worlds?

Rayearth OAV is the spin off to the anime "Magic Knight Rayearth". Set in Tokyo, 3 best friends (Hikaru, Umi and Fuu) make a promise under a cherry blossom tree to stay together forever. Tokyo (where else in the world) soon comes underthreat to a new enemy however and the three girls are chosen to protect it.

The story is gripping and the animation is almost perfect - infact I was shocked at how decent it was. One major draw back though, I had a panic attack when I couldn't put Japanese subtitles on. Nevertheless, I am surprised to say I still enjoyed watching it in English - the dubbing wasn't that bad after all!

If you like this, you should consider watching "Magic Knight Rayearth" and also, maybe, Angelic Layer - as Hikaru is recreated in there as the Angel fighter doll "Hikaru"... CLAMP must have had a brain freeze over new characters.

Great animation, great characters, great storyline, blah, blah, blah...
There's only one gripe I have about this DVD. How come we only have the English language version, but the region 1 release has the Japanese audio too?
This DVD is so weak with the English voice-acting, and to really appreciate this short anime series you absolutely NEED to watch it in Japanese.

I love watching anime and this English anime version did not put me down. The music and sound quality is the same as the Japanese version which makes it great and another good thing about this DVD is the fact they never cut or edit any scenes out like they did with the English versions of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Pokemon etc......
I have read the whole series of the "Magic Knight Rayearth" manga before I watched this DVD and the story on the DVD is totally different from the manga. Either way I prefer the manga because it is easiar to understand the story and it has lot's of interesting plots which makes you want to read on.
The DVD features 3 full episodes about 3 girls called Hikaru, Umi and Fuu who is just about to graduate, therefore they are never going to see each other again and go their seperate ways. They made a wish under the Cherry tree to stay together. At that moment Cephiro's castle broke into the world and the 3 girls where chosen by Mokona to save the world.
Well with this DVD I can prove to my friends that Magic Knight Rayearth and other Animes are not for kids as this DVD features bad language, nudity etc...... it is even classified 15. Well it is a must have for all CLAMP and Magic knight Rayearth fans.... you'll be saying why didn't I got this DVD earlier!
and what are you waiting for its a bargin!
