Had not heard the 1st Raydio album for many years having lost it a long time ago during a move or two, so I was really pleased and curious to see whether it was as good as I remembered and stood the test of time,
Well I can honestly say that it is as great as I remember it and I found myself humming along to the familiar tunes of 1978,
Now obviosly the bonus to this cd is that they have included their follow up album from 1980 "Rock on" which to my suprise is quite good aswell as I had not heard it before, in fact the second album does not flicker from the style and sound of the first one & accompanies it in great quality,
it comes with a lovely little booklet full of information about the group and the albums themselves & if you feel like a sing-along to the song's then the lyrics are also included.
if you do decide to get this album Then I hope you enjoy it as much as I have & either reminisce or discover it for the first time.
"WELL DONE EDSELL FOR RELEASING IT"

This great package contains Raydio's first two lps on 1 cd originally released in 1978/79.'Raydio' contains the UK 30 hits 'Jack and Jill' and the tremendous 'Is This A love Thing',disco and funk rolled in together;the jogging 'Honey I'm Rich also received single status in the Uk.The following years 'Rock On'although just as strong musically, contained no UK hits though 'You Can't Change That' and 'Rock On'were extracted as singles.Ray Parker Jr (the musical mastermind behind the music) had a distinctive sound and hopefully 1980s 'Two Places At The Same Time'will be reissued soon here as all 3 cds were previously only available as expensive imports. Please note that if you are only familiar with 'Ghostbusters' then you will find this cd far more soulfull.WHO YOU GONNA CALL?? not 8181....

In 1978 the track Jack & Jill got to number 11 in the British charts, I can remember hearing it stand out from all the Rock Pop and other bad music played on radio 1 back then. At the time I didn't know what Soul music was but just thought how can a nursery rhyme sound so groovy, I like this kind of music and from there my love of Black music just progressed.

I'm glad to report that ray parker's first and second lps have stood the test of time. I love "jack and jill", sure its very poppy but it's a really cute song the like of which we don't hear too often nowadays. Staying with the first album "get down" is a groovy vocodered cut while "its a love thing" (nothing to do with the whispers) still jumps out the speakers. the second lp wasn't quite as successful and maybe the better tracks are the more mid tempo cuts like the lovely "you can't change that", which was a hit stateside and still hits the spot. "hot stuff" has a very funky bassline and reminds me of the brothers johnson. while "more than one way to love a woman" has a bee gees feel to it...not in a bad way. Getting two albums for this price, you really can't go far wrong
