I saw this film when it hit cinemas and the audience was transfixed by the array of the who's who from the world of cinema lining up to pay homage to the great Ray Harryhausen. Packed with amazing clips from all the films you will know and love, it is also an Aladdin's cave of out-takes which have never seen the light of day before. For fans this is quite simply a must have purchase for their collections. For casual viewers or lovers of cinema it's a chance to discover what really made cinema's great films makers like Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, John Landis and Peter Jackson reach the top of their game.

This is the best review of Ray Harryhausens' career to date. He was a giant in cinema history and all the computers in the buisness can't top his contributions. This is an essential purchase for all movie fans. Harryhausen lives!!!!!!!!

A fascinating portrait of one of the 20th Century's key figures in cinematic Special Effects the late, great Ray Harryhausen (1920-2013).

The documentary traces Harryhausens early influences such as Melies - A Trip to the Moon (Restored) [DVD] [1902] and King Kong (1933) [Special Edition] [DVD] through to his early work and then his classic films such as Jason & the Argonauts [DVD] [1963, One Million Years Bc [DVD] [1966 and Clash of the Titans [DVD] [1981

The contributing Talking Heads in the film are quite impressive featuring Harryhausen admirers such as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and Peter Jackson. The special features feature heavily on interviews with Harryhausens spiritual offspring like the directors mentioned above and I found it very interesting to go into more depth in their appreciation of Ray.

All said and done I really enjoyed this Documentary. I grew up watching his creatures in the many films as a child and this film really brought back some fond memories, I highly recommend this film.

Must have documentary for Harryhausen fans! Includes rare, never before seen footage of Ray's animation test shots, great close ups of Ray's animation models, and great interviews with fans of Ray's that have been inspired by him and gone on to make amazing fantasy and sci movies themselves. Any true fan of Ray will love this documentary. A warning for American Harryhausen fans: this is a Region B only disc and will only play in European blu ray players. American Harryhausen fans {like myself} will either have to wait for its release in the US, or buy an all-region blu ray player, which runs about $130 from Amazon US. I went ahead and bought the all region player to watch the disc. Absolutely recommended blu ray for Harryhausen fans!!

Like so many Ray Harryhausen fans I was excited by the news that a `Definitive' documentary was coming out. What a huge disappointment it has proved to be. The majority of the 90 or so minutes is taken up with industry `names', rightly singing Ray's praises, but leaving very little time to find out about the man himself. Obviously the interviews with Ray himself came from a little while ago, but even then he is never really allowed to talk at length about his career and what made him the filmmaker he became.
The amazing cache of rare outtakes and home movie footage discovered at Ray's Los Angeles is one of the all-too-few highlights, when considering the material that must have been available through the backing of the Ray Harryhausen Foundation. Instead the film seems to rely on the famous faces on view, which in the end become tiresome.
My hopes that the second disc would contain items that were fresh and new were soon dashed, with just more `talking heads' that obviously weren't deemed worthy for the actual documentary. Other items included on this second disc seems like padding, with only the extended `home movie' footage of filming The 7th Voyage of Sinbad of any real interest.
With a little more thought about content this really could have been something. Definitive? I don't think so.
