I have been using chia seeds for several months now and can honestly say I feel a lot better for adding them to my diet. The fact they are loaded with fibre means I feel fuller for longer and don't feel the need to snack as much throughout the day. I also find it helps prevent blood sugar spikes.

The difficulty I found was finding ways of adding Chia Seeds to my food. The whole idea of putting seeds in my food seemed a bit odd at first, so I found it was a bit of a case of trial and error.

Below are some of the snacks/meals I have adapted to include Chia Seeds:

*** Chia Seed Flapjacks ***

Ingredients:
160g Porridge oats
100g dried mixed fruit
4 tbsp Chia bia Whole Seeds
100g Butter
60g Brown Sugar
3 Tbsp Golden Syrup

Method:
1.Line and grease a baking tin/tray (I find about 30×20 cm to be just the right size)
2. Melt the butter, sugar, golden syrup and salt in a saucepan.
3. Meanwhile, mix together all the dry ingredients.
4. Add the dry ingredients to the syrup and press the mixture into the tin using the back of a spoon.
5. Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C for 20 mins.
6. Allow flapjacks to cool before cutting into bars and storing in the fridge.

*** Chocolate protein milkshake with Chia Seeds ***

This is one of my favourite snacks I've made so far using Chia Seeds. I get a big tub of natural yogurt & place it in a blender with about 1 cup of milk. I blend this together until I have a nice liquidized mix. I then add a scoop of chocolate protein powder and 3 tablespoons of Chia Seeds and blend until the mix is nice and even. If you want to sweeten it up a little, you can even add a little sweetener for those with a sweet tooth.

A big pot of Chia Seeds. I haven't compared the price here to what they are in say Tescos yet so not sure on that. I did see that supermarkets do stock them now though. I use these every day in smoothies. About a tablespoon. So far, it has lasted a reasonable amount of time, certainly over 6 weeks. Every little helps when it comes to looking after yourself so this is a step in the right direction. Chia Seeds are one of the new 'Super' foods of the moment. They apparently aid digestion, boost energy, stabilise blood sugar, lower cholesterol. These reasons are just skimming the surface of what's good about them. They have heart health benefits, omegas, combat diabetes (apparently), stronger bones and teeth etc etc I certainly have lots more energy in the morning so I can vouch for that, but I also add Baobab powder and banana to a green smoothie. It's quite a healthy start.
