9/11 changed the world. It woke mainstream America up, it started hammering the nails into the coffin of non-christians around the world, it had CEO's of huge American corporations getting fatter awaiting their payback for putting Bush in office, and it changed Dennis Miller.
Sadly, the change was for the worst. Once, a comedic political commentator, now due to the comic book rhetoric of the current regime where "If you dont support us killing innocent people, you are unamerican and hate freedom and suck!", Miller has become a average-comedic Republican commentator, spewing out his propaganda-fuelled venom onto anyone that disagrees with him. Before he would add "but maybe im wrong" to his political comments, now he IS right, and if you dont agree with him, you hate America. He is basically the human embodiement of the Bush regime.
Frequently referring to the French as "scumbags" and "pussies", you have to wonder whether Karl Rove is now writing his jokes. His attacks on anything that goes against the War in Iraq (thats like the majority of people in basically every country in the world, even those whose leaders chose not to listen and instead jump on the crusade boat) is quite pathetic. His hypocrisy now seems unbelievable, he attacks Michael Moore (well if you can call "he's fat" a credible attack) because he manipulates his audience, then spews out....
"These liberals are telling me that I should take it easy on the terrorists. They said that our founding fathers would have gone easier on them. They were, after all, for civil liberties. Let me ask you a question: Do you really think that our founding fathers would have put up with any of this nonsense? I mean, our founding fathers blew peoples' heads off because they put a tax on their morning beverage!"
..and expects his audience to not realise theyre being manipulated (then again, in current America, asking questions is seen as "unpatriotic"...). Liberals want to take it easy on terrorism?! Talk about manipulation!
Ah well, i wouldnt recommend this terrible DVD. But remember people, if you dont buy it you hate America and God and freedom and goodness and cheeseburgers....
Dennis Miller is a rare breed of entertainer. He talks to you, not at you. He doesn't espouse slogans and chants, he speaks with clarity, reason and incredible wit. Even when he's not particularly funny, he speaks with the mind of someone who; at the very least, is incredibly observant. He completely brushes aside the agendas of the whiny left and the argumentative right and breaks it all down the middle with common sense. He leans in neither direction but instead steps back and views the world from an objective stand point and even when you disagree with him, you still hang on every word because he speaks like someone who thinks constructively and free of the sheepishness of a good number of people. And, to top it all off, he is very funny.
What can I say... I'm sold.
You all know darn well that if Miller were cracking jokes for the Democrats and the liberal point of view, you'd be cheering him on like the sign-waving rah-rah crowd at a DNC convention. Don't kid yourselves, and don't take away from Miller's obvious talent.
I don't agree with everything Miller says, either. But the guy is funny. More than that, he is very evidently intelligent, and he is a comedian that makes you think. We need more people like Dennis around. His analysis of current events is razor-sharp as usual, and his witty comments slice through them effortlessly.
There is a sprinkling of profanity (quite a few f-words), but Miller uses these for emphasis, and most of the time, it feels appropriate.
I dock this one star for being somewhat dated already with topical jokes such as the "impending" war on Iraq. But Dennis' humor is nothing if not topical, so this sort of thing is inevitable. Although dated somewhat, his jokes on subjects such as this are still funny.
Here is a guy that, agree with him or not, is probably the most THINKING comedian of our time. And I love him for it.
