From Amazon.co.uk

A by-the-numbers action flick featuring a stern Arnold Schwarzenegger, Raw Deal has all the traditional traits of the genre. Schwarzenegger is a disgraced former FBI agent who winds up as sheriff of a backwater Southern town. He is given a chance to reclaim his job when the head of the Bureau offers him reinstatement if he'll go undercover to capture the mob boss responsible for killing his son. Schwarzenegger must get close enough to gain the trust of the gangster without being discovered as a mole, while gathering enough evidence to take him down. One of Schwarzenegger's early films, in which he honed his persona, Raw Deal offers up the usual quotient of gun battles and tough talk, with a trace of self-deprecating humour from its star, making it reasonably worthwhile entertainment. --Robert Lane, Amazon.com

Lets be honest, this wasn't one of Arnie's best movies, it was a sort of stop gap for him, but one that really didn't really cut it for me. Yes, this is fun, watching Arnie trying to be the tough guy and a lover at the same time amused me, and there are some memorable moments, especially when he tells his wife to not drink and bake - but the moment when he's in the gravel pit listening to The Rolling Stones' (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction while killing the bad guys was probably its pinnacle, but really this is a typical gangster movie, and Arnie does OK, but doesn't blow us away.

He's a sheriff trying to get back into the Bureau, and his job is to infiltrate a Chicago Mafia family - by any means - but he has to stay under the radar to make this work.

This blu is pretty fine, with a 5.1 Master Audio track which pumps at 2 megabits a second - the quality is much better than the 2.0 mix I had before. The video is AVC and is around 30Mbit/sec - and the quality of the picture just shows you what artists Studio Canal are, and this shines really nicely. The extras are poor, the only highlight is Dave Saunders talking about the movie, though a big Arnie fan, he wasn't impressed with this one. Sadly there are no subtitles or other languages, it's rather bare, but for what it does it does it well.

This isn't a bad disk, but the fact it's bare doesn't do the fans justice, I know this film is a bit niche and has a following - but really it could have done with being feature packed, or at least a couple of languages and subtitles. This is really aimed at megafans of the movie, and fails as they already have this on DVD. The only redeeming feature is the fact it is in HD and is stunning.

Sandwiched between such classics as ‘Commando’ and ‘Predator’, this otherwise over-looked Arnie offering is a nice, basic shooter with a very simple plot, very simple characters but plenty of action. It actually showcases a good performance from Arnie encompassing a good deal of emotion in his role as Mark Kaminsky, from his quiet role as Sherriff, to a tough-talking Mafia gangster and a devoted peacekeeper. He plays the role very well and clearly is having fun, which makes for a very entertaining character to follow.

It’s a classic mob story in Chicago, with one man making waves on both sides of a gang war which leads to the clichéd characters of the stressed detective, the brutal mob boss, the tough right hand man, the heavy and the moll. Granted they are taken from the cinematic action film handbook, but with the likes of San Wanamaker, Robert David and Darren McGavin playing the roles they are still fun to watch and really get under your skin as you root for Arnie to finally wipe the smug smile from their faces towards the end.

With good action sequences and plenty of heavy duty Arnie fist-fights and brawls, some proving to be far more entertaining than when he takes up a gun, the final showdown doesn’t disappoint for fans of the genre as he takes on a whole gang of heavies himself armed to the teeth and is accompanied by “Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones – it sums up the basis of this film. It’s satisfaction in a big, loud and simply entertaining package.

The Terminator, Commando, Predator, Total Recall, Terminator 2 and True Lies I would say are Arnies best films which made him the star and charismatic icon he is today. Sure there are other films that fill the gaps like the cult classics Conan The Barbarian and Pumpimg Iron but fans always warmed to the other movies more which I get. I am a big Arnie fan, which I have mentioned is some of my other reviews but I can assure you I am not biased when I give Raw Deal a fair crack at the whip. To prove I am not one sided I will admit that Conan The Destroyer, Red Sonja and Batman And Robin are terriable( but I own them all). But apart from that I am more than happy to watch any Arnie film, even Junior which is fair at best but a lot better than people give it credit for.

Raw Deal was a brave move for Arnie in 1986 when he made it, taking a rapid departure so early on from full on successful action like Commando in 1985 which arguably made him a star. Even Conan and The Terminator were low key at the time but did get Arine noticed as an actor. Mind you, the truly awful Red Sonja could have sunk his career so early on which the big man himself will confess to. But after mixed reviews on Raw Deal, we were treated to Predator, The Running man and Red Heat which was received much the same as this which was unfair as that was and is an under rated film.

So going from sword and sauerey to cyborg killing machine to military renegade Arnie made Raw Deal, a Chicago mob style action thriller. I have always liked this film because I think Arnie does a good job with a character that no many actors could have got away with looking as big and menacing as he does. You can't knock Arnie for that.

Some say Raw Deal is not the greatest Arnie film and I have to agree. I think is equal to some of his average movies unlikeT1 ,T2, Total Recall, Predator and Commando which are Arnies best.lets face it they are a totally different caliber. The quality of this blu ray is more than decent. Not the best but not the worst either. Its more than average. To me it looks better than fine and I would recommend it to anyone. Its a film full of action and shouldn't be missed. Great seller. The movie came in time and well packaged. Thank You
