Like your other reviewers I've treasured a vinyl copy of this great record for years and am delighted it's now available on CD. Many years ago I saw her supporting the Mahavishnu Orchestra of all people and was totally struck by her amazing voice. She can move from the emotional folk of her hit single "Give her the Day" right through to the near Janis Joplin style anguish of "Which Way Do I Go". In truth there are a couple of rather ordinary tracks on the album which is why I've given it four stars rather than the maximum, but don't be put off, the best here is really good.
I often wondered what happened to Ms Whitren? Apart from the brief appearance with the Alan Parsons project, she and partner John Cartwright have made several records including "International Times" and "Rhythm Hymn" which are almost impossible to find but worth the effort. However, if you want to hear something truly extraordinary try "Court of Miracles", the band she has formed with her family, available on CD. I got mine from Amazon. She's now an vastly accomplished singer in a kind of alternative soul/jazz/rap style, plays beautiful jazz trumpet and lives in France. The woman truly is a treasure.
