This is a well put together 3D jigsaw puzzle. The pieces are plastic and lock together well, with none of the fraying sometimes seen with card pieces. Each piece is numbered for an `easy' construction, but you can do it the difficult way, finding the piece for each hole if you prefer. That's the way I did it, it took about 16 hours to complete and was as enjoyable as any jigsaw.

There is a nice display stand included, and the finished article of the antique map makes a very nice ornament.

The map itself has a few interesting flourishes, notably the voyages of Drake and Magellan are marked out. The construction was quite educational, geography has never been my strong point but I learnt quite a bit about it whilst trying to work out which piece goes where! Also, I had not realised that so much of the earth's surface is featureless ocean...

There was no trouble with missing pieces, and the visual aid to help construction is a neat and well thought through idea.

An excellent set all round, highly recommended.

The product was bought as a gift and was fairly disappointing. The pieces are sturdy and well made, but as there are many duplicates of the same shape it is almost impossible to complete the puzzle without referring to the numbers on the reverse of the pieces. Doing the jigsaw this way is pretty mind numbing and there is little geographical knowledge to be gained from looking at the backs of the pieces. We began putting pieces together looking at the map side, for example south east Asia was fairly straightforward, but then found it very difficult to attach large chunks to the main ball, and ended up dismantling what we had done in order to put the pieces on in numerical order one by one.

However the main issue with this product is that it came with one piece missing, and a duplicate of another piece which was irritating. On reporting this to Amazon we were given the option of a replacement or a refund, and we chose the refund.

4 pieces missing.
3 duplicate pieces.
1 misshapen piece that clearly went wrong in moulding and could not fit with any other piece.

All this, despite the laughable Ravensburger "certificate" included stating that it was "carefully examined several times for complete content and quality. We guarantee that all of the puzzle pieces required to complete this puzzleball are contained in the bag."
What a joke that is!

Not only that, many of the pieces don't stay in place very well at all - they constantly fall off regardless due to inaccurate sizing. I also have the older 540 piece puzzleball which was great fun to make and well made but this is way below that standard.

The print on the pieces is awful too - often off by a number of millimeters from piece to piece which is unsatisfying and totally unacceptable these days. Even without all these problems it's grossly overpriced - if anything Ravensburger should pay you for enduring this shocker.

The normally exellent Ravensburger should be ashamed that their name is on this. Avoid this disaster at all costs. Will be returning for full refund.

Do not buy this - simple as that.

What an absolutely fabulous puzzle, it is set out in the dining room, and every time we walk through we have to have a go. It is so addictive, once you manage to put in a couple of pieces you just want to keep going. Wish I had had this 40 years ago when doing geography it school. It is a great idea for all the pieces to be numbered on the back as some of the ocean is really unidentifiable... it also teaches one how to be patient as you can only build up the sides bit by bit, rather than putting all of South America together and trying to slot it in, it just falls inwards, you have to go up a couple of rows at a time. What about Ravensburger doing one of the flora and fauna of the globe in this shape..how educational would that be?

Missing pieces and duplicate pieces with a returns policy for the correct pieces so long winded and complicated it fails
