Product Description

Product Description

This fantastic image, painted in 1533 by Hans Holbein the Younger, is from The National Gallery's collection. The scene memorialises two wealthy, educated and powerful young men, who are depicted with some of their most valued possessions. Rather than the fast cars, iphones and designer brands of today, we can see books, a celestial globe, portable sundial and other artefacts demonstrating their standing in the world. Many of the items have been interpreted as references to contemporary religious divisions, whilst the distorted image of a skull in the foreground is a symbol of mortality. When viewed from a point to the right of the original painting, the distortion is corrected. "EXTRA" format puzzle measures 500 x 500mm, and has larger than average puzzle pieces. Comes with an extra puzzle image for reference and further information about the image

Box Contains

1 x large 500 piece puzzle
leaflet about the artist that painted the picture

I really enjoyed doing this jigsaw. I love this picture and I've always been fascinated by the distorted skull that Holbein painted onto the scene. The jigsaw itself is a little larger than I expected, (for 500) made with sturdy pieces. A quality product from Ravensburger.

Just fabulous as one would expect from Ravensburger. Bought this for a relation's birthday as he loves the painting.
