Biography

As one of Britain's most innovative and celebrated composers, Michael Nyman's work encompasses operas and string quartets, film soundtracks and orchestral concertos. Far more than merely a composer, he's also a performer, conductor, bandleader, pianist, author, musicologist and now a photographer and film-maker. Although he's far too modest to allow the description ... Read more in Amazon's Michael Nyman Store

this is one of the most exciting pieces of music i've heard. a soundtrack today is what opera and other forms of music and storytelling was before film happened; nyman and albarn have created a funny, harrowing, winding and tempestuous score which enhances an already good, bizarre film. if you like the soundtrack to crash by howard shore you'll be similarly spellbound by this piece.

I listened to this soundtrack before watching the movie. I am usually not a big fan of "horror" movies and I thought Ravenous was one I wouldn't like. But I am a big fan of Damon Albarn's work so far, and this soundtrack was something I had to listen to.
I have to say that this is one of the best soundtrack I have ever heard. And this is even more true since I saw the movie, which is really good too. All the instruments used by Albarn and Nyman really contribute to the strange and creepy atmosphere of the movie, and put the immersion to a higher level.
I fully recommend it if you like original works.

Well I bought this album for one track which I heard as the backdrop for a circus performance on Southbank, London, and Shazammed at the time. This track "Let's Go Kill That Bastard" is the highlight of the album, and there are few others worth another listen, such as The Cave, SaveOurSoulIssa, and Colqhoun's Story.
To be fair, it's probably one of these albums like V for Vendetta, that work really well as the backdrop to a film, but not particularly as listening music independent of the film.
Overall, no complaints, I got the track I wanted and love it.

When I saw Ravenous I was impressed with the story (until the ending), the acting and the overall feel of the film, but most of all it was the soundtrack. It's hard to describe but it perfectly matches the quirky cheekiness of the film and some of the tracks really stand out. Okay, so there are no great sweeping strings of stirring themes but they would have been completely at odds with the film, but instead we have banjos, accordions and a much earthier sound, as well as strings and percussion. Buy it for something a little bit different.
