Book Description

8 July 2014 Shadowfell
Neryn has finally found the rebel group at Shadowfell, and now her task is to seek out the elusive Guardians, vital to her training as a Caller. These four powerful beings have been increasingly at odds with human kind, and Neryn must prove her worth to them. She desperately needs their help to use her gift without compromising herself or the cause of overthrowing the evil King Keldec.

Neryn must journey with the tough and steadfast Tali, who looks on Neryn's love for the double agent Flint as a needless vulnerability. And perhaps it is. What Flint learns from the king will change the battlefield entirely—but in whose favor, no one knows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2nd Book in The Shadowfell series 17 Jan 2014
By Avebury

Such an excellent book I couldn't put it down. Not only is a great story it totally comes alive. You feel the pride, the fear, the pain and the love in all the characters. You must read Shadowfell first or some of Raven Flight will seem a little odd. I cannot wait for the next instalment. Worth every star.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slower than her usual books. 2 Aug 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I've been reading Juliet's books for years, since 'Daughter of the Forest' first came out and she's one of the few authors I buy in hardback. However this book felt far slower than usual, it didn't pick up until the last third of the book. That said, the last third I did enjoy very much.

Neryn's training was interesting and the scene with Tali and Flint at the festival added the tension the book needed earlier on.

I'm wondering if what I've heard about the publishing company limiting word count has something to do with how I've felt about this book as Juliet's earlier, longer books had better pacing and I can imagine if this had been one big book rather than three shorter ones it would have worked better as the slower pacing of the early section in this book would have felt more balanced in one long book.

I read Shadowfell and eagerly awaited the delivery of Raven Flight, it's a little slow for my liking and never really got going, however I have total faith in the author whose books I have been reading for many years now. So I am about to order the Caller which is the last book in the set. Juliet Marillier did add a little teaser at the end of this book which was unexpected. This will no doubt put some meat on the bones of the Caller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read 31 Mar 2014

If you like Juliet Marillier then this book is well worth a read! The story and writing are both magical and familiar to me as I'm a big fan of her work. I would say that this series doesn't quite meet the standard of my favourite "Sevenwaters" but I still enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the 3rd book to come out!!
