Evermore!,

This review is from: The Raven (Dover Fine Art, History of Art) (Paperback)
The Raven is a brilliant poem, a perfect study for a grieving man's descent into madness. It is enjoyable enough on its own but Dore's illustrations are masterfully done and add to the sense of creepiness and claustrophobia created by the poem. A nice addition for fans of Edgar Allan Poe.

Poe and Dore what more do you need, From a literary point of view Edgar Allan Poe is A genius but i am an art student and a huge fan of dore so that is my main attraction to buying this book and what a fantastic buy it was! its size is awkward at a4 which i found strange ( i was expecting it to be smaller) but the images are high quality) Its only the one poem which lasts for a couple of pages but after that you have the treat of viewing dores work. My only gripe would be, the cover i hate the blue it destroys the image!

Beautiful, mesmerizing!,

This review is from: The Raven and Other Poems (Hardcover)
"The Raven" is my favorite poem of all time. Before reading it, I could not possibly understand what all the fuss was about. But once I read it for the first time, I was hooked. It is not merely a poem - it is a song, a melody, a heart-wrenching story, a balland on the human condition. I can read it out loud to myself five times in a row and not tire of it. I cannot comprehend how a human mind could have produced such perfect rhythm by placing simple English words one after the other...This edition is a must for anyone who likes Poe's work. It is a true tribute to "The Raven," and it's worth every penny. This book is made even more perfect by Gustave Dore's hauntingly beautiful illustrations. I really liked the fact that "The Raven" was printed in full without interruptions on the first two pages, followed by a version interspersed with Dore's images. That way you have the possibility of reading the poem in a continuous flow without having to turn the pages and jump from image to image. Included are also some of Poe's other poems.
