Product Description

There was relief at Heathrow when the damaged British Airways 707 touched down safely. But something was wrong. The pilot wasn't answering the control tower's radio call - and the authorities soon found out why. An armed hijacker was on board the plane, together with five accomplices and a bomb. The hijackers wanted a terrorist returned in exchange for the lives of the aircraft's passengers and crew. The exchange could be made safely. Until the prisoner escaped... --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The hi-jacking of a plane at Heathrow sets the scene for a sometimes gripping action story that unfolds over the ensuing hours.

Character building is well handled apart from when the story requires the involvement of the British Army, who are made out to be nothing more than incompetent, bungling Tommies deserving of their summary despatch. Despite being on the highest security alert in a precarious situation they are written talking, laughing, joking, and dreaming when their wits should be at their sharpest.

The descriptive narrative is sometimes drawn out too much and the ultimate conclusion therefore appears too suddenly, and wrapped up as if Mr.Thomas had run out of paper in his typewriter.

However, the novel contains some excellent philosophical arguments that require an open mind. Whilst not exactly sympathising with the hi-jackers, you could find yourself understanding their motives (which vary from member to member). These viewpoints are put across excellently.

Good holiday reading!

Enter Craig Thomas 19 Aug 2006
By BeauButabi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is the first novel written by British author Craig Thomas. Though he didn't become a best-seller unitl his second novel, Firefox, his debut novel is worth a look. It's his shortest and most low-scaled book, but that's not to say it's a bad thing; I get the feeling Craig was just streching his arms when writting this.

For his first outing, Craig sets the plot around a plane hijacking. The group of hijackers, woking for a certain "Mr. J", demand that a Middle Eastern terrorist be released from custody to ensure the safety of the passengers onboard the plane. Unfortunately, the terrorist escapes while being taken to the London airport, where the hijacked plane awaits his arrival, and a massive man-hunt is put out to find him running around rural England. A lot of the book is told through the eyes of the terrorist on the run, and Craig does it very well. Hilary Latymer, who makes one other appearance in Craig's third book, Wolfsbane, is also present, and Craig's most long-running character, Kenneth Aubrey, only gets a mention towards the end of the book.

A good first novel from Craig and though he'd go on to write bigger and more epic stories, this is a nice little book that fans would enjoy. Even with this first book his unique writting style is evident of which no other author can match. Although, I'd recommend reading his later book, Wolfsbane, before this one, since that book is set before the events of which this novel relates.

The first novel by Craig Thomas. Since there have been several novels about aeroplane hijaks already, this seems merely a cash-in attempt. For better Craig THomas, read Firefox or Sea Leopard. The only merits this book has are its authenitc Glaoucestershire locations. Crap, really. Mr Thomas has done much better, but I suppose this was good for its time.

This is surely the best action adventure book I've ever read in my life. It is filled with action, and there is never a dull part in the entire story. If there were a rating for eight stars, this would get nine!
