I first saw Rat on TV and thought it was hilarious. Imelda Staunton, Pete Postlethwaite, Frank Kelly and David Wilmot star. In fact there are superb performances from the whole cast; Geoffrey Palmer's cameo role as the doctor is delightfully understated.
Set in Dublin, the story is gentle and flows well and with such conviction that it is practically believable. The humour is a mix of subtle and obvious and it is difficult to identify a distinct high point, there are so many.
I don't know when or if Rat will ever appear on TV again but it should, with fanfare announcements. It is a treat that has been missed by too many people.
