Fantastic fun! A crime fighting reggae star is clearly a positive image of black masculinity sponsored by the Arts Council, but it is not at all 'worthy', gentle humour, an exciting story and a happy ending make it a great book for any child 2-6. The rhyming text is a joy to read aloud (see also CBeebies Jackanory Junior for Lenny Henry's definitive performance) and a lovely message about the possibility of redemption and making amends, in cheese thieves at least. Children love to hear it, and act it out, but it is knowing enough to make adults laugh too. See also 'Rastamouse and da Bag a Bling', and 'Rastamouse and the Double Crossin Diva' for the further adventures of Rastamouse and the Easy Crew, role model mice all.
