"Rare Masters" brings together the singles and B-sides not released on LP or first generation CDs. Many are however now available on the "Re-mastered" CDs as Bonus tracks.
You also get the entire "Friends" album - the soundtrack of a film of the same name, which isn't available elsewhere. If you enjoy the Tumbleweed Connection and Madman Across the Water, you'll enjoy the Friends tracks. It's Elton and Bernie music you've probably never heard, yet could easily have been on either of these albums, being very reminiscent of their more well-known cousins.
So all in all if you like the Tumbleweed/Madman era it's worth getting just for the Friends Soundtrack. If like me you bought the first edition CDs without bonus tracks, it's also a way to pick up what you missed. To my knowledge "Snow Queen" (the B-side of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" and one of my favourites) is the ONLY Elton John track 'gap' not plugged by this CD.
Thanks Elton - I enjoyed it.

Worth buying just for the Friends soundtrack.Ive seen the film and its nice to have the music from it.
Some great tracks such as Can I Put You On, a track Elton used to perform live in 71/72, Friends the song was a single but did nothing and is a great song sounding very Tumbleweed ish. Some great b side tracks and unreleased tracks which I believe you can still only get on this cd.My favourite track is Elton, s cover of Kiki Dee, s Sugar On The Floor from Kiki, s superb Loving And Free, an album I would urge you to buy as it literally features the Elton John band, aswell as Elton himself on some great John/Taupin compositions.
So yes, buy this and listen to Elton in his prime, but most definitely you will enjoy the Friends soundtrack.

Good album for completest Elton fans, though I can see why many of the tracks were only B-sides, perhaps not his best songs. However, it contains the complete "Friends" album, "Into The Old Mans' Shoes", a different version of "Madman Across The Water", some very early songs and the Kiki Dee song, "Sugar On The Floor" which ends the collection on a high spot.

This album completes the collection for most Elton fans, containing lesser known early songs, 'b' sides from singles, alternative takes, and the much-forgotten 'Friends' album. Most of the tracks have never featured on Eltons albums and they still sound good to me. The man's a genius.
