Book Description

1 Nov 2006
The book is an endeavour to document the facts and figures of a formative and exciting segment of whisky history. It is also an attempt to mirror the arduous work and joy surrounding the rise of a cottage trade that became an industry. Its format is portraits of all the distilleries involved in the compilation of the Rare Malts Selection series; a collection of outstanding examples of the makes of thirty-six legendary distilleries. Each portrait contains histories and technical data, some never published before. The portraits include flavour profiles, tasting notes and comments, A special segment deals with tasting methodology, another gives a deeper insight into whisky nomenclature. In addition the full story of the Rare Malts Selection series is told in detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rare Review indeed 25 Aug 2008
Ulf is a whisky connoisseur and renowned for his collecting - obsessively, almost. His knowledge and research are immense, but this is not a book for novices - if you're a collector of the Diageo Rare Malts series, this will open your eyes to the level of detail available, and the sheer number of bottlings.
A great effort to write a book on such a specific subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lavish Coffee-Table Book 15 April 2009
This is a great book on a particular set of whiskies only, most of which you would find hard to get hold of now, but is a fascinating read and is extremely thorough in covering its subject matter.

Decent book for some reference information on Distilleries that are closed. Great coffee table book also for any whisky drinkers that visit, they all seem to pick it up and start reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book of the Rare Malts Series 29 Jan 2012
By Eric - Published on
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I had been looking for a guide or book or some reference guide for the scotch whisky that I collect. Then one day I was watching a documentary on the TV about whisky and the presenter spoke about this person and his book. I searched the United Kingdom book stores (I live here) and found the book but the few places that had the book wanted between 150 to 200 which is about $240 to $320, whew that was a lot of dosh!! But I found the book on and although it was used, and only cost me $48, I received the book and it was in immaculate condition. Really please with it.
